There's TSB's on it.

https://repairpal.com/problem/ford/mustang/hard-to-fill-up-with-fuel-500

https://themustangsource.com/forums...low-fill-548463/tsb07-21-12-213357d1621361008

The 2nd link shows an actual TSB for the S197. it says the TSB addresses the issue but says it only minimizes the issue. A TSB reflects hard data.

Yet forums talk about having problems filling for the 550/650 ad nauseum. So much that this forum linked to 3 other threads about it.

https://themustangsource.com/forums/f739/trouble-filling-gas-tank-549366/

What are we even arguing here? The people having problems are imagining it? At this point blaming the pumps is only looking at half the argument.

Personal experience. on my 06 GT I had filling click-off issues happen from time to time.....AT THE SAME PUMP I ALWAYS USE.

So the argument is that it's the pump not the car? My argument is some pumps just point out the inherent weak points in the car's fuel filling system. I haven't experienced it yet in my 2025 FWIW.

Anyway, I have 2 new kittens to play with. Brothers I couldn't split up. So here's a palate cleanser.

That TSB is on '05-07 lol. Like I said, we dont need to keep pointing to the 20 year old S197 mustang to validate a problem on a S650. I should also remind you that I never disputed the S197 fueling problems. So that "argument" isnt coming from my end.

As for the S650, I simply disagree with your opinion. If you have real data to back up the saddle tank assertion, then please post. Until then we can agree to disagree. My intention was never to argue. Im sorry you took it that way.

This is our gas tank. It is commonly referred to as a "Saddle Tank".

It is closer to being 2 tanks with a hump in the middle that gas has to pass across. If there is too much back pressure from filling up too fast, the pump thinks the tank is full before the other side fills up. Some nozzles pump the gas faster than others or are more sensitive to back pressure, resulting in different experiences for everyone.

Literally a Mustang issue for decades.

Class dismissed. 🙄

Where does the fuel go?

When I open the fuel filler door and place the nozzle in and start pumping fuel, it goes down a tube of some sort, to where on this picture?

Looks like I had a post that was deleted by admins. FWIW, It was meant to be humorous. Being someone who spent time managing inventory for Air Products (filling and pumping liquids, gases, pressure, vacuums into every type of tank imaginable...more experience than anyone on this thread will ever have ) while going through school, I found this thread to be quite comical from the get go.

But realizing that we live in a global society where not everyone has such great insight and experience as me :)....I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings.

I guess I sometimes see these type of threads as misleading people who might be researching these vehicles for future purchases etc. Creating problems where problems don't really exist. So to counter that. I poke fun.

Lastly, if you can figure out how to get gas into it....great car and super fun to drive.

I'd say it's an operator issue.
When you see people lifting the hose high to get the last drops out of it, oblivious to the fact that the shut off is in the nozzle, anything is possible.
I've even seen a vid of someone doing that with their EV charging cable.

With respect, I have been refueling cars for the last 50 years. As well as motorcycles, airplanes, and power boats.Without ever encountering this problem. Ever.

I have less years of experience refueling cars and I do know that your problem is not a Mustang or any car specific issue. I had this once on a Mustang somewhere in France and I had it a couple of times in my Volkswagen on different gas stations during her 14 year life.

So it's not about how many years experience you have.

Also, you have 1 issue, you haven't tried any of the tricks we shared with you. You also haven't checked another gas station, but you keep telling people that you have a lot of expierence.

Dude, just go to a different gas station, or try the other methods before keeping this thread up defending yourself with 50 years of refueling experience.

I have absolutely tried. Holding the thing sideways works better but is very hard (very touch line to twist). I have tried different pumps at the same station - a station I have been using for years with different cars btw.

It looks like you don't want to figure it out.
Keep using the same station then.

Just the fact that someone wouldn't try a different pump/station is crazy imo. Demonstrates a distinct mindset.

"I always did it this way and it was always the right way" mentality.

Once I worked in a company with a lot of older people, respectfully and I noticed that this was a common thing over there.

Them: "We always do it this way and it always worked".

Me: Well, now it doesn't work, so maybe you should try this

Them: "I have more years of experience than you and this is the right way".

Do you want to solve or figure out what causes the problem or not? Jeez!

Jesus, you guys.. yeah, I will refuel at a different station when I find one that has high octane fuel. This has nothing to do with "older people" in this case: I am an engineer and design high tech stuff.

I'll be back when a different gas station does the same as Petro Canada (Canada's largest chain by the way). As I have no doubt it will. Then you guys can start helping instead of victim blaming, k? :-)
