Small update: I have gone down enough rabbit holes on what to use what not to use what sucks and what doesn’t. Seen enough YouTube videos to last me through the month. It’s going to a body shop on Monday. I don’t really feel comfortable enough to mess with it haha. With all the work I have done and money I have put into it. I plan to keep the car at minimum another 4 years. I want to make sure it’s done right.

Diyvan is the original fix kit.

edit: added link - it’s here somewhere but anyhow.

I ordered franks. The ease of use and plug and play action is foolproof. I felt like I could have done the diyvan kit as well but once I saw franks basically 30 second install. I emailed him immediately. The parts are already in route as he shipped them Monday. Once the issue is resolved the car will sit until they go on.

I took it took a body shop this morning that I trust they got it on the lift and didn’t seem the least bit concerned I got my own eye on it also and couldn’t see any rust in the photos I posted. I’m not sure if it’s my camera settings or what. I took it home got it on stands and looked again I ended up just cleaning both sides with waterless wash and using my touch up pen. I also walked down the pinch welds on both sides and found random chips here and there. I really think unless you just didn’t drive the car it would be the only way to avoid anything getting a chip. I’ll be using franks kit for sure to cover the glaring hole but beyond that I don’t know if there is much else to do.

I've had mine on a lift and there really doesn't look like anything to worry about. Just goes down the body. I mean when they are putting on front of the tire air dams, i always question things like this like "are we smarter than the ford engineers"? with this mod.

It's like all the hot air intakes these guys are doing.

Like this guy, im sure he thinks he's getting better airflow, but no. just hot air intakes. Like so many of these "mods" I think are a complete waste of time. This dude maybe wondering why he can't beat a stock stang at the track. Or it's never actually seen a track or dyno. :cwl:

Like K&N air filters. Ok we all loved them, thought we felt a little HP from them. But we now know the science, we now know from multiple video tests, that shows the only reason a K&N filter helps is because it's just got bigger holes and allows more air in at the cost of letting everything else in (aka not filtering the air) like u might was well just run without a filter for all what a K&N catches. lol In that case, no K&N isn't smarter than the ford engineers. At least not if you want only filtered air going down your engine.

I just think, man dust, sand, brake dust, road salt, whatever going down these intakes with K&N's on them and that filter is stopping MAYBE 10% of it, the rest is hitting them cylinder walls and then the bulldozer of the rings comes by. It's crazy K&N even sells them anymore. Like we know it's snake oil, but people buying them up. Steada filters are the same thing, any "oiled" filter is just a more porous filter with some oil on it. It's making that extra 4hp by letting the dirt past. LOL

Like the only way to get more filtered air in, is to have more filter surface area.
Oh now it makes sense why there is two breather boxes on S650s. and what are these guys doing?!?!?! Putting K&N's on them, and hot air intakes. :cwl:

Like if you don't know the physics of it, ask someone who does. Don't just blindly be stupid.

My dad used to tell me, A little stupid is ok, but a lot of stupid will get you in trouble. :cwl:

I also came up with my own (I think) neat and most convenient available fix for this problem. Apart from removing a screw on the underside of the vehicle, the installation literally takes 10 seconds.
I recorded a short video showing the full installation process.
If you're interested you can hit me up as well!
Shout out to Frank a 7mm socket and two minutes later I have the part installed and it fits great. Nothing against the other kit definitely more involved but both are solid. Thanks again Frank.

For those of you concerned about this issue. This is a MY26 European Dark Horse, no holes anymore.

That’s how they should’ve been from day 1

Absolutely.

I guess now is clear that it never was any kind of air inlet or anything like that. Ford just screwed it up and took ages to solve it.

Interesting, looks like they designed yet a new fender liner for '26 compared to '25.

Early '25s didn't even have the hole patched.

Mid '25s and on had the hole area still, but covered over with another felt-textured piece (Ford was probably using up their supplies of the initial design fender liner and then added the cover).

Now '26s have just a single unbroken fender liner.
