My current oil drain pan I've used for 30 years or so only has a 7 quart capacity. Since I plan on changing the oil and doing all of the other maintenance on my wife's new Mustang, I need to buy a larger drain pan. Mine has a wide yellow funnel that screws onto the opening where the cap is, so it makes it easy to clean the funnel and then take the oil to the dump.

What oil drain pan are you DIYers using? I found this at Summit Racing, to give an idea of what I'm looking at: Dorman 95-1371 Dorman Drain Pans | Summit Racing

For what it does (capture and allow transfer to another storage/disposal container) works more or less ok (or at least the similar version i have). Just don’t forget to open the drain before removing the plug or you’ll be pulling a palmolive (you’re soaking in it). I’ve used a variety of drain pans. The self contained work better than the open ones when your sliding it around (don’t forget to empty each time otherwise space becomes questionable), the open ones usually are just as easy and either have enough capacity or don’t but require a bit more care regarding drips and drizzles.

@Westphal ---that looks identical to the one I got/use (not sure what brand---could be a Dorman) from Advance Auto. Works great; NPs so far.

Yes, Great oil pan! I have one similar too. Since we are on the subject of DIY oil changes, does anyone have a good quality set of ramps high enough to crawl under the car to drain the oil that I could look into? I know the ramps need to have a long gradual slope to clear the chin spoiler. I would prefer to have ramps other than any kind of jacking system for safety issues. Any recommendations/links would be appreciated! Thank you

Check out Race Ramps. They have several options. I have them for my show car to get it high enough to get my floor jack under it & a set to for ramp clearance on my trailer.

I use the HyperTough 16 quart from Wally World
That's the one I use and yes it is BIG. In fact the box Wally World shipped it in was huge! I was surprised actually.. Works well for me.

IF - you want to change your oil & filter with room to spare .... IF - you want to do tire rotations and brake work ... IF - you want access to the full drive train on this car or others you might own .... consider a Quick Jack for all the obvious reasons FWIW

Does that have enough access to drop the trans to do the clutch?

Can you drop the front K member or is it not high enough?

Those look tempting but expensive for oil changes and tire rotations

I don't know about a clutch and K member, but, my guess is yes. The drive train is fully accessible on the lift. As far as the cost - Mustang owners spend THOUSANDS on accessories, performance upgrades, wheels, finish coatings etc etc - you can pick up a 6000 lb Quick Jack for about 1500 bucks or less if you shop around. Also they are ALI certified (for me that was a big deal). I park on top of my lift when it is lowered, so no storage space issues. I guess if you actually do work on your car, it's a choice between doing it the "hard" way or the easy way.
edit - the obvious downside to doing a clutch on a Quick Jack would be not being able to slide under the car from the side - access is from the front or rear - would not be a show stopper for me, but my days of doing that type of mechsnical work are long past

See, I think if I was going to justify buying one, I'd get the 8000lb model so I could use it to work on other peoples cars (and my SUV etc as well)
