For today's lesson: Fun with Macroeconomics.

This was a great write up. A lot of people don't know or don't understand how the "little changes" implemented by executive leadership to improve operational excellence can snowball into massive costs when they realize that they overlooked variables like how significant reductions in workforce can reduced touch time and increased takt time. Then the added costs of rehiring and retraining new employees to bring those variables back into balance need to be accounted for and calculated as an operating loss. All the while, these accumulated overhead costs are refactored into product costs to shift the burden to the consumer in order to keep shareholders happy, and company profits in the black. It's never as simple as one line on a sales report.
But...none of that has affected the price of cars on the lot right now. So the sales dip can't be attributed to tariffs. I get that people don't like economic changes like that...hell...might be the completely wrong thing to do. But...looking to support someone's own confirmation bias isn't the way to go.

Ford Motor Company sales increased 16 percent to 220,959 units during May 2025 in the United States.

4,229 units behind last year

Not a lot of people want to run out and buy a 70k Mustang.
yes I have buyers remorse and would drop it for what it’s worth today.

Mustangs are tariff free. Assembled in Flat Rock Michigan
F150s come from Mexico.

I was pointing out all of the other factors that go into rising costs year over year.

No, they're secretly making tons of money on the Mustang. Haven't you read this thread?
I must have missed that part. Can you point out where that point was made?

This is false. Tariffs come on parts, assemblies, materials, etc. Most were already in place but there have been several new ones / increases this year.
That is only on the direct tariffs. That doesn’t cover the ones that are indirect such as the tariffs consumed transportation services (sample) on their vehicles and parts to keep them running.

While the mustang is ASSEMBLED in the FRAP facility many parts come from all over the place and those are subject to tariffs. That adds to the ASSEMBLED costs because Ford ain't going to absorb that.

Whether it's "confirmation bias", as per Sinthor, or not makes no difference to me. Frankly, I don't care as I already own my car and so any present or future tariffs don't impact me; I can sit with my bucket of popcorn and watch people justify one way or the other until the cows come home.

Now aftermarket parts on the other hand. That does impact me however I am finding new and creative ways to get the desired result/parts via alternative points of purchase.

Sorry... which ones? Last I checked the Lightning, some XLTs and Lariats, and anything higher are manufactured in Dearborn, and the rest are manufactured in Kansas...
No XL’s, XLT’s, Lightnings, or Lariats come from Mexico. All come from Dearborn or Kansas City.
Some very bad info being spread here.

HUGE EDIT: I thought you were someone else. My mistake!

The last 8 digits in the VIN number represent, in this order:
1: Year
2: Factory Code
3-8: Vehicle serial

The last 8 digits of VIN numbers for F150s are either xFxxxxxx, xKxxxxxx, or in the case of the Lightning, xWxxxxxx:
- F represents Dearborn.
- K represents Kansas. The Transit and E-Transit are also produced here.
- W represents the EV truck facility, also near Dearborn.

Let's look at vehicles that are produced in Mexico...

The Mach-E has a factory code of M, so the VIN numbers for that vehicle are xMxxxxxx.

The Bronco Sport and Maverick have a factory code of R, so example VINs for those cars would end in xRxxxxxx.

Except selling 80% of 25,000 units calls for the car to be axed. 20,000 isn’t worth keeping the factory open or the model plain and simple.
The Mustang is Ford's current Halo car, like the Vette is to GM, they may sell them even at a low profit margin just for the name value.

From MY24 to MY25, my car's MSRP went up close to $4000

The sticker on my 24 was $58,515 now it is easily over $62K

Even with A/Z plan pricing the 2025 GT with some nice options is a 60K car for a ragtop

Less for a Fastback

That is a lot of money in an uncertain economy, and the tariff on aluminum and steel has not hit the supply chain yet, but considering the amount of Aluminum used in not only the Mustang but most Ford products, you can bet 2026 cars are going to be priced out of a lot of peoples reach.
