Hey team. Getting kinda sick of looking at these nasty rotors.

anyone have any tips or tricks on how to prevent this?

Any preferred method on cleaning them off?

i feel like this happens after i pressure wash the ole boy……Do i just need to get one of those water deionizer canisters for a final rinse???

Would love to hear everyones thoughts!

If you powder coated the rotors they won't rust. Other than that bare steel exposed to water will rust. Or you could get carbon ceramic one's.

The rust isn't deep. Just drive the car and it will be gone after a little braking. Mine rust every time I wash any of my cars. No big deal.

Perhaps thats why ive noticed it more. Its just been sitting there outside for three weeks while ive been waiting for the snow to come and go.

Carbon Ceramic rotors….that sounds expensive lol

powder coating a rotor? You can paint rotors? Doesnt it just immediately come off after a few days of braking??

No oil - if anything brake cleaner......but as many have said just drive it for a few minutes after washing it or drive it and brake a few times after it sits.

The rust appearing on the surface cannot be prevented, due to the high iron content of the rotor. High carbon knives act in the same way: once met with moisture, they begin rusting almost immediately. See Japanese sushi chefs, constantly wiping their knives.

After washing and drying, I do a parade lap around the block. It's akin to a dog shaking themselves after coming out of the water. The short drive scrubs the disc surfaces while ridding the areas of any standing water. The brake disc constantly rub across the pads. You can apply brakes only when necessary.

Once parked, there are a few areas to wipe once to dry, from water exiting where it normally rests. The discs are clean. And, they won't rust stuck.

If the car sits outside and the rotors are stuck from the weather, I've found pumping the brakes a few times will free the calipers.

Edit,

Many will occasionally use iron-removing and decontamination solutions, for deep cleaning a few times a year. Use these products sparingly and only as prescribed. Do not use them on a regular basis. Someone in 6G past started a thread, concerned about their rotor and hub assemblies; they were becoming increasingly degraded. Turns out they'd been using these products with almost every wash. Their only choice was to begin replacing equipment.

I carry a can of color-matched spray paint from Ford. Every time I get out of the vehicle I hit them with a light coat of paint. They look amazing. It’s a little annoying having to do it every single time I drive the vehicle but it’s so worth it not having to look at rusty rotors.

In the 70's Jap bikes in particular had stainless steel rotors, so they'd not rust and look nice.
Trouble is, the brakes didn't work when wet.
I chose rust.
