Got into a hit and run, insurance estimates at $4700 damages, body shop is $7600. I want to get it fixed. How does the repair process work?

Also, do you think it’ll be fine to take on a long drive

Body shop will send over a supplement to your insurance. Insurance will review or call for a meeting with body shop, and hopefully approve it.

Maybe get some heavy duty tape and cover the nose pieces that are broke so they don't flap around if they're loose

Thanks. I’m hoping they do approve it. Any idea how much this’ll affect premiums?

Yeah, filed a police report as well. They said it’s likely they won’t find the person who took off so 🤷🏻‍♂️. Im just annoyed it happened. I’m supposed to drive it to NC for the unleashed experience 🥲

Consider a dashcam, it could help in instances like this. Damage doesn't look to bad, hood, front fascia, may some stuff behind fascia, but overall, not tooo bad.
Yeah been thinking of one, just haven’t gotten around to actually buying one. Might bite the bullet after this. Yeah, the damage doesn’t look that bad. It just sucks driving around with the damage right now

Op… had similar happen to my daily driver.

eat the cost out of pocket and keep cheap premiums, sucks but that’s life
I was going to, thinking it wouldn’t be that much. Got an estimate for it and they quoted $7600.

Shop other estimates and tell them you’re paying out of pocket, a lot of time they are running the numbers up to cover paying deductible and maximum insurance billing

the short version and I am a retired Insurance Appraiser and former shop owner....

The shop as part of the repair process represents you and negotiates with the Insurance company for the amount needed for repairs and part replacements to restore the car to pre loss condition per the language in your policy and state laws.

Hand it to the shop and let them deal with it.

It does not matter what the appraiser wrote on the appraisal, it rarely matches what the shop writes unless it is a very minor accident, and even then it is uncommon not to get a request for a supplemental appraisal to cover hidden damage exposed once the car is taken apart, labor rates, operations, procedures, pre and post scans, recalibrating safety systems, etc etc etc etc.

If you have a good shop you have nothing to worry about.
