you've never seen an AR15 with a metal hand guard/rail?You mean like the Busmaster M4 I used in Afghanistan, or the Colt M4 I was used in Iraq (Or any of the M249s, or M240s I was issued for that matter)? They all had plastic forearms, not metal.
Of course they gott hot under sustained fire, but not like a metal forearm would; which is why virtually no modern military long arms (despite Rob's unsupported claim plenty of hang guards are made of metal) use any type of metal for them.
And, despite Rob's non sequitur of intake air not being in the intake tube for long; it's just basic physics that air going through any intake tube that is hotter than an intake tube made of a different material; that air will absorb more heat. QED.
"Intake tubes are made of plastic... because you can shape them however you want, unlike metal."Let me repeat. Stop!
Quickly flowing air across metal that isn't all that hot (how much hotter than ambient do you think an intake pipe is anyway?) isn't going to increase the temperature of the air by much. It's simple physics, at least you're right about something.
and yes, that's why many air intakes are made of plastic. Easier and cheaper than metal. Simple ones that are just a pipe with a filter on the end are metal but that's the ricer aisle at Autozone
