Hey OP, 5W-20 is perfectly fine, I would not bother calling them. You will just waste your own time. lol

Both 5W-30 and 5W-20 are for the engine, the only difference between the oil is the 20 is ever so slightly thinner than 30.

If you look back in time, Ford has switched back and forth between 5W-30 and 5W-20 due to stupid CAFE regulations. Since 20 is ever so slightly thinner than 30, supposedly 20 gives better fuel efficiency through less friction. The early 00s cars took 30, then S197 took 20, then at some point gen 2 coyote (2015/2016) switched back to 30 for a short period but then for 2017 (literally same engine) and 2018+ gen 3 coyote went to 20... now they are back at 30 and I'm sure a few years from now they will change everything to back to 20... It is just B.S. 🙄 the cars take both, everything is perfectly fine.

If you are still reading this message, stop worrying about it and get back to partying for the holidays. 🎉🎅
My 2015 gt took 5w-20

@StangMobile ..... #1. Get that $hit out of there right now and make the moron who used it replaces it for free - with what YOU specified ....5W30 FULL synthetic. End of discussion. The 5W30 can make a huge difference in your engine's performance and will likely prevent the dreaded BBQ tick from developing. In fact, more techs are recommending FULL synthetic unless you want your engine to sound like someone trying to start a BBQ. #2. Buy the oil from the parts department and give it to the tech so the dealer doesn't use bulk oil which might be Ford oil, might be 5W30 and might be FULL synthetic...... or not. I buy it and hand it to the tech at oil change time. The new 2024 GT Coyotes should NOT run on 5W20 and YES it does make a very big difference, particularly under load. #3. I tip my tech and he pre fills my oil filter - twice - once before he removes the belly pan, the old oil and old oil filter..... then he adds some more new oil to the new oil filter as the first pre-fill has been absorbed by the filter's filter media. Do this simple task properly and your engine will last a lot longer and you will likely not get the BBQ tick. #4 maybe you need a new dealer not populated with morons who have no idea of the properties of the appropriate oil for your engine of its intended performance parameters..
rofl. Dude please stop posting complete bologna!

Not going back after this issue is resolved, I’m not expecting them to do any extra favors as long as they change the oil with 5W-30. Will not be going to Ourisman Ford of Alexandria VA again.
it could be a simple mistake if they handle it well no reason to not use them again. It’s not detrimental it’s not a major issue. It should be fixed but no need to make a giant stink if they take care of it IMO

Well let’s see how they handle it. I made an appointment for oil change a week ago and when I got there lady goes I don’t have an appointment and was talking very rude. This is my first ford, I’m used to BMW customer service maybe I’m expecting too much, but doesn’t matter no reason to behave rudely period.

Worrying, or getting irritated by their answers, is not worth any more of your time. It's a non issue.

BMW service isn't always great either. I just sent a neighbor to have a key cut, based on his VIN. He shopped it from the various dealers, and BMW of Fairfax was $400 more than BMW of Alexandria.

according to SSM 52334, the coyote tick is a normal operating characteristic and is, to quote Ford, "not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine". Ford knows these engines best because they built and designed them themselves, and they did it so well that even TVR plans to use a coyote V8 in the new planned TVR Griffith. if Ford says its not a problem, it is not a problem

Ford went back to 5w30 from 5w20 that the 5.0 in my F150 and GT/CS call for, for a reason. They screwed up, they need to fix it. My dealer recommended using 5w30 in my the other two 5.0 when I last had the oil change.

The reason this was done has zero to do with either performance or reliability. For all intents and purposes the two are interchangeable. We enthusiasts tend to overthink everything. That’s what makes us special. 🤭

The paperwork says 5W-20. That doesn't mean that's what they put in their. Could be a clerical error.

Is the oil plug in?
The filter properly torqued?
No damage to the vehicle?

If yes to those,
I would not fly off on them, call calmly bring it to their attention and next time you go back just politely remind them.

Unless you plan on sending off a sample my guess is they tell you it was a miss print/clerical error.

I don’t want to call and be rude during holiday season, that’s just not me. I will bring them to their attention and let’s see what their response is, hopefully they will just have me bring it in and change it.

Personally, I would leave well enough alone. Especially if you answered yes to my 3 questions. If they say bring it in, just say free or discount next time. Everytime you enter the realm of dealer/auto service you enter a crap shoot.

For me I would just want to get what I paid for. If they did put in the wrong oil, accidentally or not, I would want them to change it. JMHO.

lol. Why you insinuating like he’s gonna fly off the handle. All he asked is if it’s ok and whatnot. The guy has a right to the proper oil the manual recommends and what he paid for.
