Kinda makes one wonder how we ever drove big engine high horsepower cars without computer controls doing our jobs for us. And don’t mention cable operated throttles that connected the accelerator pedal directly to the carburetor.
I dunno man, carb'd engines were always pretty damn snappy when setup correctly.

Rochester's also make a great noise

Exactly my point.

Yeah, those old 2GC/2Gs honking WFO on a good tri-power Goat honestly sounded like they could suck medium-sized birds out of the sky. Those who were there first hand will never forget that sound!

At the risk of sounding 30 years older than I actually am,

brother,

the honk of triple webers on an XKE is probably one of the best noises I've ever heard. This is followed with a close second of double webers on a V4.

So so so good.

While turning all of 14.9's on a good day, if that, in the qtr...

Tire technology has come a very very long way.

before the oil crisis, engines were making very respectable power figures
Agreed, but before 1972, horsepower figures were of gross ratings so if I take a stock 1965 348hp Goat and translate that to a more realistic net hp, that comes out to slightly under 300hp. That in a 3600 lb car still runs in the high 14'- low 15's no matter what tire you put on it

I suspect its gear ratio.

When I test drove the manual and auto GTs, I found the autos to have better throttle response. Especially the ones with the 3.55 gears. I did not drive a manual with the 3.73 gears (PP only), But I personally think the manuals need to have 3.73 gears to feel the response. I had 3.73s in my M1 with the Tremec, and the response was excellent.
Yes indeed the 3:55's are too low for the long gearing in the new mt82. I have also noticed even when i put it into sport it doesn't adjust the throttle. If you switch into sport while driving you should feel the car pull or feel like its trying to go vs normal. I sometimes need to let it run a bit in normal then switch. Palm beach dyno also proved that the regular GT has its throttle set to only open to around 97% im not sure if they found out about is the curves are different yet, but i believe they are. Short of the piston rods everything else is easily added on from the DH which is why the GT has been nerfed down.

Once again, I’m sorry but I gotta say you guys whining about throttle response, linear or non-linear response, sluggish in whatever mode, pedal commanders and so on ad nauseam really crack me up. Whatever happened to just giving it the beans for goodness sake? I’ll 100% guarantee you that if you nail the throttle the engine will give you all it‘s got. Try it and see!
Here because my son just bought this car, so I can't actually answer whether it's applicable on the GT, but I can say that throttle response on my e90 M3 DEFINITELY improves in the performance modes. I suspect that Ford has figured that out and it's not only a BMW thing.

No difference on my S2000 as the 6MT has NO "modes"-it's all how you handle what Honda gave you.

I have same 24 GT Performance Pack 6sp and my sport mode is way more responsive off the line than normal. Only thing worse than normal is track, track mode is absolute ass off the line.
As I would suspect. Most of the better companies have figured out correct mapping for these specialty modes. I wouldn't imagine that Ford would even bother having different modes without some sort of difference.

I don't know what people are talking about my Dark Horse manual. If I put my foot into it the 315's in the back will spin right thru first and into second. Now I have a Whipple and I can spin them at will. So not sure what they mean by slow throttle response?

Me either Paul.

I see it as pretty simple: you put your foot into it, you feel what it’s got. I truly cannot fathom why that’s even a topic to think about, much less discuss.

Oui. Nobody heard of tq management before I guess...? Normal pedal demand is 100% linear. The sport pedal is enhanced and should allow for the TB to open at an enhanced rate v pedal demand.

That being said, there are tq modulation changes between base, Alt1 (sport/track mode) and Alt2 (drag mode). There should be less tq modulation in sport mode v normal mode. So what you say you are feeling goes against whats in the OEM tune file.
