unfortunately, I don’t think you’ll get any real answers until you take the car in for service.

It’s generally not the best to drive a car for long in limp mode, but it really depends on what the underlying issue was.

don’t get too preoccupied what “what ifs” when it comes to taking your car in to get checked out. Just taker hee in snd see what’s going on.

if you’re lucky and you have a dealer with a car guy - a real mechanic who lets his knowledge updated, you may get all the answers to your questions and then some.

Until you have codes and a physical inspection, there are too many variables to know.

Sorry to read of what happened. I can think of 1,000 reasons why it occurred, none of which could be proven.

It reads the damage could be severe (low oil, misfire, wrench light). If confirmed (severe internal damage) by the tech, this will encourage Ford to pull the engine, recovering it for forensic purposes. In the events I've read of, Ford is quick to replace with the full documentation and warranty supporting.

But until it gets diagnosed, I'm speculating. Hopefully, the issues are not as severe and I'm proven wrong.

Retrieve the codes and we ‘may’ be able to guess a little more accurately.

I get the sense you already know what could be and what may be as well as what hoped to be (since you state you’ve spun a wrench prior) and are seeking a little reassurance. Limp mode is just that - limp gonna ‘prevent’ catastrophic damage - unless / until aggressively pushed to exceed the fail safe params, kinda like a donut tire.

Did you try pulling the battery cables and doing a hard reset?
Maybe it’s stuck in limp mode?

That’s seemed to resolve 99% of people’s issues.

This happens. It shouldn’t but it does. I wouldn’t get too wrapped up in that. The dealers a moron. That’s not on Ford.

I live a very rural area and was forced to drive her around 50 miles to get home. A tow truck could have taken 24 or more hours, and with a wife and child I cant leave them that long.

Well, it’s done. So that’s that. But depending on why the light came on, driving it that additional 50 miles could give Ford the right to deny a warranty claim. Only an inspection will tell them/ you what happened. I wish you good luck.

10 quart capacity, 9 quarts in the pan. Absolutely nothing will get damaged because of this. Keep in mind that all vehicles will use some oil as you drive them, and most can be upwards of a quart low when you change the oil.

Must have talked to the teenage car porter. Beyond that, did you open the owner's manual? It tells you what the recommended oil is. They will NOT put full synthetic in a vehicle at the factory, then tell you in the owner's manual that the recommended oils is a synthetic blend - nor vice versa.

I wrote it off to it's a high performance motor breaking in. No big deal

Unless someone here is fluent in clairvoyance, there's absolutely no way for anyone to answer that question with any amount of confidence.

Do any of you have any contacts at Ford that you think would be beneficial to speak with?

Start with the dealership. If your first reaction to this is to fire off an e-mail to Jim Farley, your expectations are unrealistic.

It's not the end of the world. Shit happens. Give the dealership the benefit of the doubt and let them look into it. That's part of the reason they exist.

And congrats on the new DH. Things will get worked out.

Hello all, hope everyone is doing well.

1st post and unfortunately it has to be negative.

I purchased a Dark Horse Premium for close to 90 in cash about a week ago. Saved for years for a dream car and this was it.

Upon getting it home (48 miles on her) she was a quart low on oil. Went to a local dealer they couldn't even tell me if if it full or synthetic blend.

Went with the blend to get back within specs.

I wrote it off to it's a high performance motor breaking in. No big deal

Yesterday on the freeway. And I've babied her mind you, check engine light comes on. Not ok

Performance drops and I can tell a cylinder on the right bank is misfiring. Absolutely ridiculous to spend that amount of money on a vehicle and having it do this. I have only filled with premium fuel and have followed the manual to a T.

Fords quality control has gone to s***

I had a 2011 coyote that never had any problems.

I'm pissed I dropped that much cash now to have her towed and some 19 year old kid have to diagnose, change coil packs, or rip the heads off. Then test drive her and go as fast as he can.

So here's my questions for y'all

How much damage was done to the motor from about 50 miles of said situation?

Do any of you have any contacts at Ford that you think would be beneficial to speak with?

And lastly, do any of you recommend a high end towing company in WA state

I’m surprised you don’t have free towing from ford. When I ordered my 2021 GT PP1 they told my all Mustangs come with a 3 year full warranty and free towing for 3 years. Then a 5 year drive train warranty.
