Clutch Protection - Do our GT's have it?

I have seen the term here and there bit do not know if it is for real. I noticed that if I do a rolling start and run it up to 7k or so, that sometimes when I shift to 2nd if I try to be easy on the clutch release I will hear a noise. This only happens if I am releasing the pedal slightly too slow at high RPM. Sort of a groan or a honk type sound. In other cars I have had this is usually felt as well thru the pedal. Thankfully that is not the case here. I am not going to do this anymore since it has happened a few times now.

No Idea about clutch protection, but releasing the clutch slow at high rpm is going to burn it up.

Thanks. I did not feel that I was releasing it too slowly. I saw a video that stated that when the car is in DRAG mode high RPM shifts are much, much better. I took the car out (got oil up to 212) in DRAG and did a textbook 7500 RPM shift from 2nd to third. No drama-no noise. Not gonna try it from 1st to 2nd. I don't want to ask for trouble. The clutch groaning was while the car was in Normal or Sport mode. Wondering if there is a Clutch Protection that is active when not in Drag Mode.....

Can you define "release"? Are you saying engaging or disengaging the clutch?

Yes they do have clutch protection and its measured in joules.
[ECM] 1455 - Clutch Protection Enable Energy: Above this energy level, the clutch protection logic will cause a torque reduction.

No unfortunately this is a global setting in the tq management side of the trans area. So its not mode specific. We have more control with the 10R80 with tq modulation via shifting characteristic like base/ALT1/ALT2 and that can be mode specific. But not with the manuals.

When I tune manual cars, I give both versions of a tune with this on and off and let the owner decide which they like better. And let me tell you disabling it by maxing out the enable energy makes a DRAMATIC difference in clutch feel in daily driving and launching (Im told). I have folks that like it off, some that like it stock settings and some that say it took some getting used to, but prefer it all disabled after time with it.

It will really make you relearn the clutch feel once its off, but you get a much more positive feel from launching. We can slow down the throttle body snap as well for the manual as needed. There is another tq management setting that controls the total delta degree swing the throttle body can open in a certain amount of time. The manual is set to 80* and the autos are set to 8*. Meaning the autos have much slower throttle body reaction than the manual which can basically snap open as fast as tq demand allows. The autos are set much lower to account for converter lock/unlock/slip situations as well as clutch pack changes in the trans. These calibrations on the gen3/4 cars are some of the most complicated I've seen across all the major domestic brands.

Any idiot can tune a camaro...lol Just kidding but kind of.

I have learned a valuable lesson. No more occasional 1 to 2 redline shifts. Just 2 to 3, which is smooth, especially when in DRAG mode. Don't know how, but it just is. I am not a hard driver, just usually once during each drive I will run it up in a single 2 to 3 shift from now on. Never a burnout....EVER!

OK. I think you are letting the revs fall too much, and the noise is the engine being brought up to the correct revs.
