Quick update: Dropped the car off at 9am this morning. Had to call after work since they never bothered to let me know what’s going on.

Was told the car is throwing a camshaft code and the dealer does not know what the issue is nor how long it’s going to take to fix. So it could be a simple code reset or they might have to tear it apart and replace things. Said they have to call ford to figure out what to do next and if parts will need to be ordered.

So right now it’s not looking great, will try to get more info tomorrow and keep y’all updated.

There is a sensor that detects the position of the cam shaft. It's part of the variable valve timing system and if it fails, it would be a good reason for the car to go in limp mode. Probably the solution will be to replace the sensor and it shouldn't be a big deal.

There are 4 VCT solenoid/sensors, each with its own code. If they are calling hotline, it is something more complex, or a combination of codes not seen before.

That’s what I’m afraid of. Today will be the 5th day of it sitting at the dealer while they try to figure it out. Does it usually take this long?

Worst part is they cannot cover a rental until the problem is diagnosed so I’ve been paying out of pocket because of their delay. Extremely frustrating.

Our normal diagnostic time for a check engine light is 24-48 hours. 5 days tells me something out of the ordinary is happening. VCTs can be replaced relatively easily. You will find that Ford does not pay for rental cars as part of the standard warranty. Your dealer may have dealer owned loaners, some do, but it is not required, and is a huge expense that most dealers cannot afford..

My tech advised he has never seen this code before so yeah unfortunately it’s something out of the ordinary.

I have the premium care that lists $60/day for a rental, and they do not have a loaner so I was recommended places near me. Loaner said they cannot authorize payment until they get the ok from Ford so I am stuck paying for the car until they figure mine out in who knows how long.

Premium care is good! So much for those why say extended warranties are a waste of money... :)
I'd be curious to know how this works out, did the tell you what the code is?

First service a couple weeks ago. Did you check the oil level. The GT is a little unusual as it holds 10 qts. of oil. Have read many instances where oil change experts at dealerships (not) have screwed up on the amount of oil needed to do it correctly. Just a thought.
This was a real big issue back in 2018/2019 when the Gen 3s came out and the Coyote went from taking 8 quarts to 10 quarts.

Was really debating getting it or not as I thought most issues would be ironed out so far but looks like it was the right decision. We’ll see how everything gets covered in the end.

Dealer did not give me the codes but Rocket was able to pull this for me, good guy.

True about the oil level. These also use a bit of oil, so check it regularly. We get 5.0 cars and trucks a few quarts low with all sorts of codes, topping off the oil resolves the problem. Most people today never check oil, tires or anything else.

I've seen the P0022 many times, that is a cam timing code, along with a P0018. The P052D am not familiar with.

Once again, I got the wrench and reduced power over the weekend. No code could be picked up on my scanner. The car def had reduced power, and it felt like it did while breaking in prior to 1k, or not worse. The wrench did not clear after a 20 mile drive. Only after shutting it off, and letting it sleep and totally shut down, did it restart with no light.

Also got a steering system fault alert. That cleared after two ignition cycles. I again, def felt something was up in the steering wheel, like it lost say, 25% of it's power assist.

This is honestly getting OLD AF.... This is the 4th time I have gotten the wrench light. Last time it was for a ABS fault that cleared after one ignition cycle. No point it going to the dealer with it. Esp when you have to make appointments a month or more out.

A wrench light is powertrain, usually transmission or throttle body related, and difficult to address if intermittent.

In response to scanner, I bought one last year (ArtiDiag600). Bought to diagnose my sons 2020 Charger issues. I tried to connect it to my 2024 Mustang to see what parameters it reads. After it detects the Make, Model and VIN it tells me it cannot connect and goes back to the homepage. I contacted the manufacturer of the scanner and they stated that right now they do not have any updates from Ford so they cannot read the codes or trend the parameters for the new 2024 Mustang.

Anyone else with a scanner seeing this same issue?

As annoying as it might be, it may be worth looking for other Ford dealers around you. I know when I had my cam phaser rattle in my 2017 F-150, my local dealership could not get me in for 3-4 months. Called a dealership that was a bit further out and they were able to get me in within the month. Not only that, but they brought me a rental and picked up my truck straight from my house and drove it back to the dealership. Within a month, the dealership diagnosed and fixed my cam phasers and returned my truck. This was all covered by Ford's ESP since my truck was passed the 5 year / 60,000 mile power train.

My current Mustang has some quality defects and will be getting fixed here soon. The schedule drop off is about 6 weeks out from when I originally brought it up to the dealership and I worked with my salesman to ensure that I would be provide a loaner since these quality defects were present during my purchase of the vehicle. Originally, when I brought the vehicle in, the dealership was a bit weary that they would be able to get me a loaner, which I found odd. I say this because when I bought my F-150 from them, I had some things that needed to be taken care of right after delivery and they offered me a loaner without me even asking. I guess times have changed in the last 5-6 years.
