changed the differential gear oil

Hello everyone! I’m a Mustang GT owner from South Korea.

I bought my car new and have driven about 4,500 km (2,800 miles) so far. I recently changed the differential gear oil for the first time.

Ford recommends using Motorcraft XL-13 friction modifier for the LSD. However, this time I used Moty’s M502 differential gear oil from Japan.

According to Moty’s, M502 already contains friction modifiers and is suitable for LSD applications, so I decided not to add any additional XL-13.

I can’t say the difference after the oil change was dramatic, but the drivetrain does seem to feel slightly smoother and more refined when transferring power.

I’m curious — what differential gear oil are you guys using in your Mustang GTs?

I really enjoy trying different oils and doing little experiments with my car, so if you recommend something that I can actually get here in South Korea, I’d be happy to give it a try! Haha.

i did mine at 1000miles and switched to redline. it also already had the friction modifier so no other fluid was needed. I like getting the first fluids out early to get all the break in junk out. I also just did my mt82 with the BG syncro shift cocktail at 2800miles

If you have the Torsen differential, then friction modifier is not required. It quiets down the differential, but does not help with how the differential functions. I am using Red Line 75W140NS, which is the version without friction modifier. I run the higher weight oil and no friction modifier because my car is a track vehicle, so I don’t care about the noise and I want a heavier oil.

I use Redline in my differentials when I change fluids I also use it in my 2011 MT82 after right after break in. Good product.

back in the day when I had my 2012 GT, I used MT90 in my trans and I never had any issues. It seems these days that isnt the desirable fluid to use anymore

Standard diff or torsen? I used that in the S550 without torsen, it started making noise, I added some of the friction modifier which made the differential action seem weird. Changed it out with Redline 75w85 and no additional friction modifier and it was quiet and differential action was as it should be. I like Mobil1 for engine oil, but prefer redline for gear oils, but had that stuff sitting on the shelf.

I also used oil without friction modifier in a 3.55 Torsen but it's likely you will get a rubbing/stuttering in the first sharp turns and cool weather without it. Ignore the differential cooling pump mentioned in my posts below, your GT is much simpler to drain and fill since it does not have a cooling system like that.

Good ole Valvoline in the easy squeeze bottles! I did add the Motorcraft friction modifier even though it says it has some friction modifier in it based on seeing information from others.
