Being more of a Mopar or no car guy, I wanted a pony car not a muscle car. Mustang wasn’t the first but is now the last. My other car is a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for when off roading is needed. My “other vehicle” are a couple of Harley’s. Mustang is for on roading when the weather is too hot or cold and it’s also the only stick shift. Wife drives a Durango with AWD and a Hemi. So when we need to haul men or material that’s the go to.

Nice choices. Mustang, Rubicon, a couple of Harleys. I can 100% relate. Had 3 HDs, but got rid of one for the Stang.

I'll do a comparison between the two since I just traded in my GT for a Hellcat.

  • Speed: The Hellcat is simply way faster than a GT or Dark Horse. More comparable to a GT500.
  • Handling: The GT will run circles around the Hellcat, or any Challenger for that matter. No need to even mention the Dark Horse here. My GT PP1 definitely felt way more nimble in corners. The Hellcat handles better than people think, but it's still no match for a Mustang.
  • Comfort: Hellcat. Bigger interior, comfier seats (Laguna Leather), suspension is much more cushiony than the GT. The Challenger is definitely the better daily of the two.
  • Interior: I prefer the Hellcat because I hate the screens in the '24 GT and like that the Challenger still has analog gauges, but the reality is the GT has better tech and is more modern inside.
  • Reliability: The Challenger and Charger are both very reliable because the platform hasn't changed since 2015 and Dodge has worked out the kinks by now. They regularly appear in the top of reliability reports despite most other FCA vehicles being meh. Amazing transmissions, bulletproof engines, only odd things you have to worry about with them is the occasional electrical gremlin. The Mustang is a Mustang. The 5.0 is uber reliable and I aside from the cars getting rattly there doesn't seem to be any major issues with them aside from electrical gremlins on the new infotainment system.

Pretty much nailed it.

The news that more Hellcat engines have been ordered effective 1-1-25 is awesome. Right now looks like Durango/Ram but hopefully it'll trickle down to the new Charger as well. Tim Kuniskis is going to try his hardest to save the company.

I am not sure the new architecture for the Charger will support the hellcat engine. heck, it may have problems with the normal V8.

I will still consider the Charger when I look at my next vehicle, but I am really wanting Ford to step up and make the teased 4d sedan off the mustang platform so I can buy that instead.

I am a bad electric industry employee (I work in the electrical utility industry), in that I don't believe that the EV designs are done baking yet. I would absolutely love an EV, but they have to solve the charging/range issue for me to get one. I don't have the luxury of getting a "round the town car" and a separate "road trip" car, so whatever vehicle I get has to be able to do both...and by road trip, I mean 3k miles (round trip) or longer.

I really like the Challenger. Gives me a more muscle car feeling than a Mustang. But I can't deal with the weight vs power ratio.

They are too slow.
Please do not refer to these new electric cars as muscle cars. As they are not. They are EV's.

I have a 2024 Mustang GT, PP, AE, Magneride and a 2019 Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody and I had a 2016 Challenger Hellcat. Two things that were immediately noticeable were the Widebody Challenger steering effort was higher and the ride was stiffer in normal mode than either the Mustang or regular body Challenger Hellcat. In sport or track mode they all three have a stiff ride.
I have driven a regular body Challenger Hellcat on a road course and an autocross course and I thought it handled very good. I saw peak g's on the built in readouts of 1.05 g in both braking and cornering.

In your opinion, so not sure why that means somebody else shouldn't use the term  Entirely up to them, free country and all that!

Others disagree with you...

Dodge Charger Daytona: The World’s First Electric Muscle Car Is as Powerful as It Is Stunning | Architectural Digest
Is ‘muscle’ strength or speed? Strange to call a 1:1 maximum potential ‘muscle’, when a 12:1 out torques (gears before 1:1 multiply, gears after divide - most evs only deal in 1:1). Muscle can be ‘built’ but evs only allow ‘reprogramming’. What power adders can be used with an ev to increase it’s output? Is that building muscle or tweaking application?

Muscle car was a term from the 60s it denoted a mid size car with full size cars performance engines that's it. no more no less. People call everything a muscle car now.

The challenger just isn't a good looking car. Especially the side and rear 3/4s view. The proportions are all off. If your design has crappy proportions, then nice headlights or wheels won't suddenly make it a good looking car.

Look at how awkward, clunky, and ungainly the challenger looks compared to the s650 here.
