I’m overall pretty satisfied with the rear design of the s650. However i feel like it’s missing something I edited a couple photos and made the lower part of the decklid black. What do you guys think? Personally I feel like a black deck-lid really makes the rear more aggressive and makes it look more like a Mustang should like the facelifted s197 and s550.

Much better. Either that or get rid of the black around the lights and keep it all body color.

Honestly I don't think it fits the design of the S650. It already has some nice design lines in the rear that are quite lost with the black decklid.
Agreed. The whole point of the blackout panel on past Mustangs was to break up visual mass. They all had relatively flat surfacing around the trunk and large taillights to match. Made sense.

The S650 has shorter taillights and a hiked up diffuser so that mass is already shrunken and perked up. On top of that, the massive cut line breaks up the trunk lid itself. Still think this translates in person much more easily than photos when light, shadow, and reflection play around these angles.

It's not so much adding a black decklid as it is removing the awkward black taillight surrounds...I guess you need that for red cars to make the lights stand-out, but I think that aspect just looks awful. Having three standalone bars for lights with body color paneling would have went so much better with the overall rear "no black decklid" theme. It's a bit awkward both with and without, no matter what you choose to do to "fix" it. The S197 did this a lot better/more cleanly than the S650.

Then they need to get rid of the black around the lights, otherwise it looks incomplete. All black or no black would look best.

The issue everytime I see this is people follow the shut line in the trunk, so it dips down and looks very strange. Either make it completely straight or don't bother.

Yup...too busy, too weird. There's so many little things that Ford can work on to make this thing that much better with the eventual refresh.

The big black strip above the red reflector (right below the license plate) needs to be color coated instead of black. It reminds me of the black bumper moldings of 50 years ago.

Yup...a black spoiler helps, but it's such a disproportionate amount of plastic lol. I mean, it REALLY dominates the rear and yeah there's not enough color back there. It's the worst part of the "big black diaper" of the S197 all over again...Ford will likely repeat the past and do something with this during a refresh. I just find it telling that the largest and most documented criticism of a car design from only 10 years ago went forgotton/was simply not known by the designers behind the S650...lol.

Do you mean the later S197 (2010 & later) models with the cheap black overlay above the license plate?
