In my personal experience, my buying experiences were MUCH better at a small family owned dealership vs. a dealer chain. Better deals, less BS, etc.
The smaller dealerships are all gone around here, so the dealer chains are mostly what's left. Some advantages of them are larger inventory especially if the car you want is at a sister dealer...they can get it for you.
Even then every dealer is different....look up Yelp reviews, BBB, Facebook reviews, etc.
