I have the GT Performance Pack, and my car is now a dedicated track car. I run 5w-30 because I cannot find any definitive guidance that it is better to run 5w-50. I'm in the South and have tracked my car in near 100 degree heat. There are lots of guesses and assumptions, but nothing I can find from the manufacturer or those who have done any type of verifiable study. That's not to say 5w-50 is worse or better; I just simply haven't seen anything other than guesses.
The Dark Horse R specifies 5W50 if that helps

Yes, but the OP did say his car is standard spec

Yes my car has 0w-30 in it as did my S550 for 6 years and 40k miles
Interesting. My 2025 DH says 5W-30 full synthetic and 9.5 quarts to fill. It says nothing about track pack weight being different. My dyno people say always use 5W-50 with the Whipple.

Do we know the specific differences in the Dark Horse R engine versus the street legal vehicle? It has “upgraded oil cooling”, permanently opened oil thermostat, and 12 quart capacity. It also specifies changing spark plugs after each event and engine rebuild after 40 hours.

It also states “This is a sealed competition engine, contact Technosports for engine rebuild and replacement services.”

I’m just not certain the oil specs of the Dark Horse R are appropriate for the street legal vehicle engine. They could be, but I just haven’t seen any definitive guidance. I want to use 5w-50 because it just seems to me it would be better for track use, but while I’m under warranty I am reluctant to use anything other than what is specified by the manufacturer.

I would just stick with 5w30 for NA and move up to 5w50 for Boost. Everyone does it and either way it wont be an issue. And for the record, I have ran 5w50 on my NA cars and it eliminates the bbq tick. Also Ceratec with 5w30 does as well.

Colder temps. In the owners manual for USA they recommend the same.

Changes in latitude, changes in attitude . . .

In the United States, Georgia, where I live, is on the same latitude with the continent of Africa and the countries of Iraq and Iran. Florida shares latitude with Saudi Arabia. Much of Europe, if moved west, would be up in Canada. Even most of the further southern reaches of Europe are up around the latitude of Pennsylvania and New York.

Why do people ask this question? An owner can run differential fluid if he wants to do that.....
