Just returned from my first extended (7 hours each way) road trip, my GT 5.0L/A10 averaged over 26mpg
Hand calculated based on actual fuel purchased and miles driving or per the computer in the car/dash?

Bit of both, Dash reported 26.2 mpg for the trip, but manual calc of miles to approx gas (I didn't run it to empty on the highway) had her at 27.3 mpg. This all with a fair bit of "in-town" driving in the middle.

I get about 23.5 on the interstate and 18 with mixed driving. FWIW 4 mpg on the track. 😂
LOL @ 4mpg on the track... I had a drag car that got 1/4mpg!

Here’s an update.. I know you won’t care but hey!

This is my latest fuel economy.
IMG_0492.jpeg

7.6 litres/100kms is UK37.17mpg or US30.95mpg
When I fill now my GT tells me 737kms (458 miles) to empty.

No, I don’t drive like Grandpa, (actually I’m not a Grandpa).
I do zoom occasionally.
This is the result of some things I do to every vehicle I’ve ever owned, and it works.

Learning to drive, Dad told me to take off, “squeezing the accelerator like there was an eggshell before your foot and the pedal”.
This from a generation of petrol rationing, he learnt to drive a pre- war Vauxhall and rode a motorcycle, unable to afford a car.
Today I still take off slowly; everyone else (Hyundais to trucks) like a Jackrabbit - to next red light, where I slip in beside.

Managed 35 mpg (imperial) out of 10 speed auto. Can’t match it out of manual.

In my nearly 7,000lb truck, I do exactly as you described. I don’t get in a hurry, take off easy and brake way in advance of a stop, even when I’m not hauling anything. It’s a truck designed for hauling, not racing. Yet, on the Super Duty forums people are all the time talking about 0-60 times, who they can beat off the line, etc. It is supremely stupid if you ask me. I bought a truck to haul and tow; I don’t car how fast it goes from 0-60 unloaded. I drive like a Grandpa (which, admittedly I am).

Now…in the Mustang I stomp on the accelerator most of the time. The last concern when I’m driving is gas mileage. I bought the truck to do a job; I bought the Mustang for fun. I’ll take the 4mpg on the race track any day of the week over the 25-30mpg cruising on the highway. I’m not going to drive my Mustang like my truck, and if it costs me 5-10mpg in fuel efficiency while driving around town, then so be it.

2018 GT 5.0 10 speed auto 3:55 rear gears IH 45 from Corsicana TX to Houston you got 70-75 mph legal speed. with cruise on 78 mph /93 octane /19 " wheels 27.8 mpg is my best . plenty of hills until you get close to Houston . That was a one time experiment , usually 85mph and 17-18 mpg . Still amazed a 5.0 with 460 HP? {which I question } can pull off that kind of fuel mileage .Junqdawg. Any Oldtimers out there remember 1967 PLY. Satellite 426 Hemi Dual Quad 4sp. OUT the Dealer door ran 12's, These GT Mustangs 5.0 -10 sp auto would have nailed them . I know some Hemi's could do a bit better with slicks and such . Love to see what a 5.2 would have done to 'em .Yep . just a 'Ol man remembering the "Good 'Ol " Days " Seems like just 58 yrs. ago .

I love getting high mpg, but not as much as my foot likes pushing down. My first tank, I got 20 mpg. It would get easier if I don’t drive 85 mph too much.

my 19gt manual would regularly get around 30mpg on my highway trips back and forth to Michigan with the cruise set around 75

when I was moving the Mustang from NH to Florida it averaged 29 MPG

With the 10 speed the 10th gear is like .64 to 1, and the 3.15 gears are conducive to highway driving so it isn't much of a surprise that over long distances at steady speed it would to well, but when you are running around town and operating the vehicle in a spirited manner then 18 is the lower end of my average mileage. Normally it is in the 20 to 22 MPG range

Exactly as mine around town with the same car. Haven't even done a highway trip yet. Life is hard right now.

I have a 6 speed GT convertible for 9 days. First tank I averaged 17.6 mpg. Almost the entire tank was used on back roads in 1st through 4 gear varying RPM constantly. Second tank I averaged 21.4 mpg, driving a mix of back roads and highway. At 550 miles I have not yet done highway with cruse on. 30mpg +/- would be excellent, but not expected.
