Well, I actually did it. I have always been a Camaro guy, I did have one mustang before (2013 GT) but that was a short ownership because I hated that transmission.... So after a 15 Z/28, multiple ZL1 1LE's and a SS 1LE that I recently sold, I decided to order a 24 Mustang GT and I just took delivery of it. After a week and a half of ownership, I will say I have enjoyed the car so far but it's for sure nowhere near a SS 1LE out of the box... That's ok ! I am going to continue to ignore the cracked windshield and start the modification process to get the car where I want. For now, I hope you guys enjoy this video of my perspective of the first week of the 2024 Mustang GT:

Similar for me, had a ā€˜20 ZL1 and ā€˜17 SS 1LE and the Camaro is simply a better sports car. Cabin is dated and the view can be tough, but the tranny, suspension, looks were all highlights.

I donā€™t quite regret the Mustang, it is a fun car and I love the Coyote, but I sure do miss both those cars.

The windshield is cracked, we are approaching winter and as we get rain and then snow, there will be more debris on the road. I am considering just leaving it cracked until next spring. Windshield seems to be awfully fragile or I just got unlucky on that one rock....

I plan on swapping the suspension so I didn't want to waste the money on the magneride.

understood. thanks for the answers. very nice looking car.
can't wait to see what you do to it. I think i am ordering a 25 that will be almost a twin to it. except maybe red with nite pony and magride instead of the Recaros.

Congratulations on your purchase.

I think youā€™ll love the car.

as youā€™ve noticed by now, the GT has a far nicer interior snd is more livable day to day. Itā€™s also just as fast as the 1le if not a bit faster. You e also noticed its handling is not as good as the 1le.

Ford has been somewhat lazy with the mustang for the last decade -outside of the voodoo v8 development (which GM owes their z06/zr1 R&D thanks to). GM threw everything including the proverbial kitchen sink at the Camaro in 2016 from the ground up. No stone was unturned, including the actual nuts and bolts. . Ford updated the body and interior and then updated the engines snd transmissions and a little massage to the suspension after a while to avoid getting their butts kicked so bad.

It was a couple years before they caught up and crept a bit ahead. But much of that was band-aid for platform-level deficiencies.

now, the mustang is the best itā€™s ever been, but still continues the lazy path. Itā€™s better, but not next-gen better. Itā€™s not ford swinging for the fences, itā€™s ford keeping the mustang viable as they weather the industry ev-or-not storm.

what we have is a great car. Could it be better? Yes. But whatā€™s there is great. It looks better than any pony car, performs very well, and has a pretty rad, modern interior (despite some carryover).

where youā€™ll really love the car is how much better it responds to performance modifications. Suspension upgrades will transform handling unbelievably.

but the engineā€¦ youā€™ll get an actually RELIABLE 800hp car with just the ford authorized blower and tune.

you could do that with your Camaro - then youā€™d be buying a new motor.

so while ford has a bit softer car from the hit, itā€™s by design. Theyā€™ve fostered an incredibly healthy aftermarket for decades by leaving a little on the table. What mustang owners get in return is way more than anyone could hope from the factory - especially with the forced induction dealer specials.

get some mods on this bad boy and enjoy the modern era king of pony cars.

GM actually owes their Z06 R&D to Ferrari, not Ford. They bought a 458 Italia engine to help understand the design process.

Yeah, I think the current political climate of forcing EVs led them to play it safe financially with the S650 Mustang. They can keep it going for several more years without breaking the bank, which while understandable, is disappointing considering what Chevy is doing with the C8--a car that sells in much lower volumes than the Mustang.

@9secondko ..... well said - and - the Mustang convertible had about 30% more room in the trunk when compared the last year both were made. Just left a coffee shop about an hour ago. A guy hit the pedal when leaving. I assume it was a 2023 Camaro as it looked brand new and it was the convertible. Then we left with our stock 2024 GT Premium Mustang convertible and I gave her a bit of gas. I had to stop for a red light. A guy who was at the coffee shop pulled up beside us with his Dodge Hemi PU and said "That's what a pony car should sound like, that Camaro sounded like fire crackers going off in a tin can." That was a pretty good description as it sounded really strained and tinny. The Camaro engine while up-dated recently is not even in the same universe with the Gen 4 Coyote and every Camaro owner knows that.

Iā€™m thinking about switching to S650 because of the theft issues/ease of these 6th Genā€™s. We know GM wonā€™t do a thing about.

I disagree with the camaro owners and the engine... sound is also a matter of opinion and I think both sounds great.... but to each their own !

@Dragster.... some great points but respectfully if Ford charged for their Mustangs what GM charges for their Corvettes that would be a completely different story and until GM's recent up-grades to the Corvette engine it was old school and no where near as power efficient as the Gen 4 Coyote. Both cars have their place but it is not fair or accurate to compare them, IMO. BTW it's probably still on youtube somewhere but there was a video of a comparison of the 2014 Mustang and Camaro, done by a dealer who had both new models on his lot. The Camaro got the nod for handling the Mustang for room, design, sound (exhaust) and acceleration. I haven't looked in the cabin of a 2023 Camaro but IMO the 2014 Camaro was fugly, whereas IMO the 2014 Mustang was beautiful.

sure, thatā€™s part of it but Ford did the Ferrari examination first - and solved the ability to do flat plane no on larger displace, ent engines. GM didnā€™t learn much from the tiny Ferrari engine. Thereā€™s more voodoo in the lt than Ferrari.

as to the second part, fully agreed. I e posted on this very forum how much better the Mustang could be if they really went for it with their much better selling Mustang like GM is with their niche c8.
