Hey all, looking for some help without going to the Auto Body Shop. I hit a sign last week on my front bumper. Let me know if there is a way to repair/hide it. Any help would be appreciated
I am in New Jersey.

Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?

Damn dude, that is a shame!!!!

Sadly, I don't think a little Oxford White touch up is going to fix it. You could bleed paint into those cracks and hope like hell it'll hold up under air pressure but chances are its going to crack.

I know for chips some shops will use a toothpick and drop a single drop of paint into the chip area, let it self level, then buff it to try and smooth it down to the rest of the paint level, and then clearcoat the area.

The only options I see are;

- Figure out a license plate holder to cover that area
- Bondo (do they still do that stuff?), sand and then wrap the front in oxford white (gloss)
- Purchase a new front fascia from Ford (or replica) and have it painted

Regardless; go paint the sign neo yellow so you don't hit it again.

Thanks for all your advice. I will bring it to my guys that do wrap and vinyl stuff before checking with the auto body shop.

Personally I would order a replacement by bumper probably off ebay, lord knows ford will want 3x the amount because its a “darkhorse”. Have the body shop paint the bumper and install yourself. Should cost you around $1600 all together and an hour of your time.

Great suggestion by @bountifulgoose !

Depending on your skill set and physical plant situation (garage vs no garage, etc); spray bombing (aka rattle canning) an ebay or other bumper cover is a pretty straight forward operation and would save furthers $s over a body shop.

Finish sand, primer, body color, clear coat, done!

If you decide that might be an option for you; be sure to do a test spray of the primer with color coat on a NON VALUABLE plastic object to compare to your car before going whole hog on the new bumper cover. If it doesn't match well (Dupli Color has been quite good in my past experience) that leaves you the body shop as a plan B.

Best of luck with whatever you choose!

@mrnavy2 ..... the answer depends on how much you want to spend and how handy you are. If you can push the area a bit from behind to pop it out a bit that would be a good start then fiberglass patch the area, apply bondo with fiberglass strands, sand, prime, paint and clear coat. There will be a fair bit of sanding in volved using progressively finer grades. If this is all "Greek" to you or if you do not feel confident with that process you may be able to get a used fascia from a parts yard or a good aftermarket supplier to avoid factory costs.

There are specific repair materials for plastic bumpers (not bondo or fiberglass), there are some DIY kits with colored repair material. I would start looking at those if you are diy-er.

Reminds me of that one time many years ago when the wife shredded one of my rims a curb. Somehow we're still married.
