Try again.

S550 is a ground up new platform.

The "heavily modified" version of the Gen 6 Mustang died in 2011..
2010-2014 was still the S197, front fascia updates, minor interior updates, and rear quarter updates.

You're correct the S550 was indeed a new platform.

It was a "New" platform that was based off the S197 platform, I.E. a heavily modified S197 platform. It wasn't a clean slate design

Well... The S197 (2005-2014) was a modified version of the DEW Platform, same platform that debuted with the Lincoln LS during 2019CY and since the S550 is a "heavy modified" S197 Platform (and this one being a modified DEW98 Platform)...... The new S650 will be based on a platform that debuted in 1999.

God, and there are people complaining about the FCA LX platform hahaha it looks that Dodge will move out from the old platform before Ford.

Well technically, D2C wasn't exactly a "modified" DEW, but was "Loosely based" on DEW. I'd personally consider D2C a new platform, but isn't S550 still on D2C? or is it D2R or something like that

What I'm saying is that in "A Faster Horse" they discuss the plans to have the Gen 6 Mustang be built on a heavily modified and modernized S197 platform was abandoned in 2011.

Arguing as to whether the platform has completely changed or if it’s simply “heavily modified” is semantics. Just say “new generation” and stop arguing minute things. :p

Not really... a new platform would allow for things like wheelbase/overhang changes, double-wishbone suspension, repositioned engine, etc. A clean slate redesign could make for a HUGE improvement (I.E. alpha platform)

Good point. The engineers always start from current knowledge and try to make improvements. Every single dimension might be changed, but it's still based on previous designs.

That completely depends on the project and how much of it is under his control vs from suppliers.

Energy storage, SpaceX and other non-Tesla related projects are typically on time or early. Most Tesla delays end up being supplier related.

So with the Bullitt Mustang arriving soon and the GT500 due in 2020, can we still expect an updated, heavily revised or all new Mustang for 2021? Noticed this thread hasn’t been active for a while with new info. Eagerly waiting to purchase the next version as it will be my first Mustang.
