I've read the news too -- I don't know how credible it is. The S550 has been every bit the sales success Ford had hoped it would be -- if they stay on their game, there's no reason to expect the S650 to be any different. Why Ford? Why?

Ford is going to move away from all cars not named Mustang and Focus. Mustang is too much of a cash cow/storied name plate/ showroom traffic driver to get rid of. Other than the F-Series what has a longer uninterrupted history at FMC than Mustang?

Really though, it seems like the shadow of the "Mach 1" is just a Ford Edge with a Mustang front end

Using the Mach 1 name for a fast, practical (good looking?) all electric car is a stroke of genius. The Mustang does not need to hog all of Ford's good names, just "Mustang" was enough to make the s550 the best selling sports car all over the world.

Tesla will not be happy at Ford firing back with it's arsenal of heavy hitting names. It might be Hackett is not the plonker we all thought he was.
