    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

You can just outright STEAL a used '15-'17 now too -- that would be more than enough to tide you over, and the most accelerated depreciation is over with on those cars, so it's not such a financial hit -- but if you want new, you want new -- and I totally get that. The feeling of ordering a new...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

I've read the news too -- I don't know how credible it is. The S550 has been every bit the sales success Ford had hoped it would be -- if they stay on their game, there's no reason to expect the S650 to be any different. Why Ford? Why?

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

I remember a member chazcron did one that was based on specifications for parts sent to parts suppliers -- I have a feeling that Ford has closed the loop on that -- or have they? They may open things up again to let people like him do as they'd done prior to the 6th gen -- it was so exciting to...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Would we want the wheelbase to be that much shorter? Or have the track that much narrower? How much stability would be lost?

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Improvements must be made... Now that Ford has a fleet vehicle that uses lightweight materials, economies of scale may bring the cost within reach of the Mustang. If there aren't improvements, the Mustang will die.

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

It does no good. But I'm not seeing that scenario.

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

The difference in price between a base '18 Mustang, and a base '18 F150 is $1795 -- the base models share the same body in white as the top trims. I'm not sure how you get to a V8 Mustang starting at $50k -- it seems a bit hyperbolic. If the V8's stop selling, that's another discussion...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

I think I'll be a dreamer, and be a little more optimistic -- but you're likely right. My thoughts go something like this: From the 12th gen F150 to the 13th gen F150, the weight loss was 750lbs from the top model. Understanding that the Mustang is a lot smaller vehicle, the capacity for...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Okay then -- so some theoretical S550 built with the F150 construction methods and materials might shave -- what's your best guess? One hundred pounds? Two? Could it be close to the three hundred I want it to be?

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

I understand that to be the case for our current cars -- but what about the F150? Is that not on an aluminum unibody?

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Sure -- and nobody wants to see the demise of the V8. As far as crumple zones -- how does aluminum used in the F150 compare to the soft steel used in a lot of the bodywork? Maybe I expect to much from the full F150-ization effect. The fuel economy standards are also going to go up, so the...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

We're only talking less than 6 inches of total length -- I'm sure they can find close to 3 inches somewhere. The wheelbase and tracks are needed for stability -- they shouldn't pull much there -- but they could pull an inch and a half from the rear overhang pretty easily -- it would sacrifice...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

A smaller, lighter car doesn't need as much tire -- but I think most S550's are lacking tire - I'm not suggesting it will be all the way down to SN95 proportions (but they had back seats too) -- I'm suggesting that it could split the difference in size -- the S500 is only slightly smaller than...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

I expect it will be somewhere between SN95 and S550 size-wise, and it will hopefully get the F150 aluminum chassis treatment. Design-wise, I look at the facelift for 2018, and keep thinking about the 4 gen Camaro versus the 5th gen. I hope they keep more Mustang elements in the design than...

I tend to agree with you.

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Okay -- I have some questions about this argument: By "original fastback" do the "this is not a fastback" people mean the '65-'66? According to those people, is the '68 actually the only "true fastback"? Is the word "fastback" only defined by the unbroken line all the way to the rear of the...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

It's probably a confluence of things. Picking "heritage" apart, not every Mustang has carried forward equal amounts -- I think specifically of the foxbody: it was offered with a V8, and responsible for the fabled 5.0 moniker (although I think it was first offered in the Mustang II) -- I think...

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

People still buy the Mustang because it's a car of style and substance, and very aggressively priced -- that's true if you're age 18, or 80. Some people feel comfortable buying one because of it's heritage, but the style and substance are definitely there.

    2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Remember back when everyone was trying to guess what the 6th gen looked like, and there were these market research things going on: you'd sign a nondisclosure agreement, answer some questions, and get a peek at the car. I seem to remember some questions or statements about the engine options...
