Hello, new here and looking to get into a new S650. Recently helped my son buy a new GT with performance package and love that car but want to get something for myself and cannot afford one with the PP on it let alone finding one.

Located a nice GT that does not have the active exhaust and was wondering besides the sound changes, does the active system actually give you more horsepower or make the car go faster or not over the single tube exhaust on the GT? Is it worth the 1500 extra bucks?

Thanks in advanced..

An extra 6HP with active exhaust... quiet mode is nice... if you like your neighbors.

I think it's worth the money because the quad tips look better and because the active exhaust sounds good with a resonator delete X or H pipe, a fairly inexpensive mod. With S550s the non active exhaust doesn't sound as good with an H or X pipe, so many owners change out the whole catback. I'm not sure if it's the same with the S650 since I have active exhaust, but it would not surprise me if it is.

Here's how it goes:

1. Spend $1,595 to add Active Exhaust to your car when you buy/order it

Not loud enough. Buy $300 H/X pipe because a $2,500-3,500 AE compatible catback is too much $$$

Then either:

A) still not loud enough, spend $2,000 on active exhaust axle back

or

B) H/X pipe made it too loud, spend $300 on a Borla/Jones resonator or put the stock one back on

IMO get the non-active exhaust car, and put a quality axle back on it (not a Corsa Extreme or Borla ATAK). It'll sound good. If you want more, add an H/X to this. Save the $$$$

To be honest I don't believe the 6hp gain. I believe its marketing hype to get people to spring the extra $1600 active exhaust.

I have the AE on my S550 and no AE on my Camaro (NPP in Camaro world). After owning both ways, I’d never go without AE again. Being able to adjust noise level on the fly is so great. Once I added headers to my Camaro it’s so damn loud… which is cool for like 20 minutes lol but you can’t do anything about it without AE.

Active exhaust is a lot of fun to play with an gives you options when you want to roll quietly. Yes there are times when you might not want full blare.

Ford claims 8 hp gain of Track Mode.

Worth it, yes, extra hp (well how fast do you shift?). It is the least expensive highest bang for the buck factory integrated ‘modified’ exhaust system.

Entirely up to you. I went with no AE on mine because I knew I’d change it out to a different catback which I went with AWE touring. And for me it sounds good. Has an H pipe, loud when I step on it and sounds good when cruising. There are times I wish I went AE cause it does look good and as others mentioned being able to go from quiet to loud is nice. So just depends on what you plan to do. Still no regrets on mine although I don’t have headers, etc so mine isn’t crazy loud.

I get the logic but there are plenty of us happy with the H or X pipe with the stock active exhaust who won't go beyond that step.

With the non active exhaust, you left out the step many are taking to replace or cut their diffuser to accommodate quad tips. I agree with getting a good axle back first. I did that with my S550.

I purposely avoided the dual-mode exhaust as didn't think it was worth the ask. I added Ford Performance X-pipe on my 5.0 and it sounds great all the time. Maybe a little loud at start-up as it dumps fuel to get the cats fired up, but otherwise very nice. As I row through the gears (mine is 6MT) it sounds great inside and it settles down very quiet at cruise. So, my suggestion is skip the $1500 and spend less than half that for the X-pipe. Lots of them to choose from. Mine was simple install and I had a shop do it for me along with installing Eibach lowering springs (another must-do in my book) for about $150 total. Just my experience and two cents for what they're worth! Good luck on your purchase! My 2024 is a great car!

The only good thing about the active exhaust ironically is the ability to silent mode. Normal mode is already annoying for me. As much as I love the sound of the coyote I don’t need it on all the time.
