Now I'm starting to pay attention to this. I haven't had any updates since I purchased the car in March. I have auto update enabled, any day at 1:00 a.m. The car is connected to my home Wi-Fi.

I've tried checking for updates through the Ford app and also directly through the sync 4 system. I check every day or so and no history is displayed either.

I don't get a perpetual spinning icon. The check seems to work takes between 1 and 3 seconds and then just says no updates are available.

I've also checked in my Ford account under vehicle, technology. No software updates or history show there either. Down below it says the car hasn't been updated within the last 90 days

Since day one I've had All of the privacy settings disabled in my Ford account (privacy toggles) except for vehicle location. Vehicle location works normally in the Ford app. Android auto is bad enough but the last thing I'm going to do is let Ford share my driving habits, speed, braking, etc with a 3rd parties.

With that said, is it possible that because I have the privacy settings disabled, that Ford is not able to capture information about software updates and display them in the app or under the vehicle dashboard in my Ford account?

I'm just asking as a possible reason why my vehicle shows no update history or new updates? Interested in hearing others opinions. 🤔
The updates are sometimes few and far between... not like a cellphone. Ford has some mystical logic to there update rollout. WiFi is not required for updates. If you think you are missing an important one, member @rugedraw can look if you have any pending or failed.

I would say, don't worry about updates... if your car needs one, and it appears all is well with your car in that regard, it will get it when Ford's logic dictates.

Thanks everyone. I'm honestly not stressed about it. I just didn't have any idea about the frequency or what to expect. Also nice to know that customizations are saved unless you do an actual reset. At this point I'm just going to sit back and let things happen naturally.

It may not need any updates. My 2025 produced in March 2025 got it first OTA update in March 2026. My understanding is that most of the OTA updates are done via cellular LAN vs WiFi.

My car received the following OTA update today. It occurred overnight in Dumas TX or this morning while driving from there to Dalhart TX. Received the notification on my car screen in Dalhart.

FYI: My settings have been very stable. No changes in colors, profiles, etc for many months. OTA in March and this one did not change any of my settings.

Got this same update today. Saw earlier checking in the car that it was "downloading" status, and just looked at the app and it now shows as updated with a green checkmark denoting it's a a new event.

Ok I disconnected the car battery for 30 mins and everything is back to normal. It did reset all of the my color settings BTW

Now it says this when I go to software updates. Its doesn't say I have one pending so I assume this is the most current version???

"stupid videos that spam the most important display of the car when changing drive modes"

I have never had this happen ever, tell me about these useless stupid videos you get. In short happy I never experienced those.
It's the animation that hogs the entire instrument cluster when you change drive modes. I find them distracting and tiresome after you've seen them for the 300th time.

I guess I should change drive modes more often on the screen. I don't see those when i change it from the steering wheel buttons

Oh, the mycolor settings could very well be affected. None of my Ford's have that, so not familiar with it.

That message you are seeing is the details of the last OTA that was sent to your vehicle and that will stay there every time you check for updates until another update gets sent and whatever happens with that update will replace that message.

If you scroll down, does it say "not completed" or does it say it installed?

Man, I was hoping Ford was better at OTA updates than this. The TRX community has been dealing with a host of issues for over a year now since some genius at Stellantis decided the TRX would get the new RHO software, too.

Aside from Tesla and Rivian, every manufacturer has the same problems with OTAs. It's not a Ford specific problem.

Yeah. Sucks that you buy something that works and then years later they screw it up and you are stuck.

7th gen Mustang owners should consider themselves lucky. Ford started OTA's on 2021 model year F150s, Mach E's and Broncos. Those owners were the guinea pigs for this stuff. The issues that those owners experienced were crazy. By the time these cars dropped, Ford had gotten MUCH better at this stuff. Obviously, it is still not perfect, but believe me when I tell you that these vehicles have had little to no relevant issues with updates.

I'm still coming across 2021 F150's and Mach E's that are stuck on software from 2020 and unable to receive updates without dealer or owner intervention.

Update. This is really strange. Today I checked the cars software status in the infotainment, and there was a message saying that update wasnt completed. This was not there when I check on Monday. I went to get my phone out to take a picture when the screen refreshed and just said no updates available.

I made a stop on the way home, and then rechecked the status in the infotainment. Now it says update completed and gives me this message. 🙄

What in the actual f**k is so hard about these updates that you have to be a private investigator over 3 days to figure out whats going on? Alls well that ends well, but sheesh.
