Jack recommendation

Hi, fellow Mustang owners.

So since I have a garage now, I realized I don't have a proper jack (except what comes with the car). My car is completely stock, no rails installed, etc. The jack points are very weird, I haven't had to change a tire myself. Could you please recommend me 2 things:

1. a nice heavy-duty car jack, similar to what they have at tire shops
2. any other accessory that is needed to jack up the car at that jack point. "Pinch weld adapter", etc

My neighbor has a harbor freight low profile 3 ton that has to be 7 or 8 years old. I have a 3 ton H/F Badlands- it's too tall for the MDH, but I can use the factory-ish jack to get it high enough to get the badlands underneath and take over.

I really need ramps I can use with the HP Dark Horse. A lot.

I use the Daytona low profile 3 ton jack with a urethane puck on top.

The puck goes up against the jacking rails and protects from scratching. Before I installed jacking rails, I used the slits in a smaller urethane puck to align under the pinch weld.

If you intend to use a floor jack for regular maintenance, jacking rails will make your life 100 times easier. And they are fairly inexpensive.

Don't get the tiny 1.5 ton aluminum one, at least not for your only jack.

Then pickup a set of jack stands.

And a US General tool cart, at least the 5 drawer model, or one on of the rolling cabinets.

And then a bunch of tools.

I was looking for an onboard jack in case I had to get a wheel off the ground to use dog turd plugs.
Looked everywhere, nothing was quite right, then I found the perfect thing in my wifes car. Factory VW scissor jack. It'll do in a pinch.

I use the Daytona low profile 3 ton jack with a urethane puck on top.

I use the same.

To the OP, the Daytona is an all-steel jack. It's built to last and comes highly rated. If needing a jack for the road or track, I'd select something else, like an aluminum or an aluminum/steel piece. These would not be as robust, but they'd be easier to move, around, in and out of the car.

Regarding the pinch weld points, the best long-term solution is jacking rails. It's an easy mod.

Left screwed into the car are a series of bolts in the unibody. These bolts are used to hold the car in a carriage as it moves down the line. Being a one-time use, safety piece, they are left with the car.

To install the rails, the bolts are removed with simple hand tools, the rails bolted in their place. Now, you can jack up anywhere along the rail, versus one or two places designated underneath.

You can just make them out in the photo immediately below. Instead of jacking where the cutouts are in the rocker panel skirt, I'm underneath the rail. The unibody seam is level with the rail; there is no damage.

For tools in-general, I'd go slow at first and buy what you need. There are some great sets out there, from budget to expen$$$ive. Everyone is going to have a sweet spot for the amount of their expertise and level they're operating at.

I've been using a set sold by Race Ramps for the last few years. Light. Easy to maneuver. Four years of use, they continue to look new. The set I'm referencing have a 7-degree up angle, safe for the Mach 1 HP. I'd think they'd clear the DH as well.

I have a hydraulic motorcycle jack purchased from Harbor Freight for $99 using a coupon. It has two rails topped with rubber. I find it works very well for jacking up my Mustang with out jacking it up!!

Here is the current version, but I notice the rubber atop the rails isn't as robust as the one I own.

Got these from Amazon. Needed a low-profile jack for my RTR because side rails were so close to the ground. They work great. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
