So first off, I’ve been dreaming of owning a Dark Horse since the moment they were announced, a Mustang for much longer than that, and a V8 for as long as I can remember. A few weeks ago I picked up my Vapour Blue Dark Horse after waiting nearly five months for stock to become available, and we are now about 50 miles away from the magical 1,000 mile break-in period being completed. I can’t wait to hear how this thing sounds and feels above 5k rpm - yes, I’ve been good when breaking it in...

First off at the dealership after I got the call that it had arrived, I spent a decent amount of time just wandering around the car, sitting in it and taking it all in. Started it up and wow the exhaust note is just incredible. At that point I had never actually driven a Mustang before, only been taken out for a test drive in one about five months earlier. The engine made a ticking noise that I wasn’t sure about, but as they had another couple DHs in stock at the time, I started one of those to reassure myself that it was normal - same sound, phew.

Then, the hardest part, I had to say goodbye to it for a whole week whilst it went off to get its PPF coat on - straight into a box on the back of a trailer from the dealership, without even driving it around the block. That week waiting to get it back somehow felt longer than the five months that went before! After a lot of research I went with full XPEL PPF - a mixture of clear and stealth to match the different details on the car, with stealth on the mirror caps, which I think look better in a matte finish than the OEM gloss black. They did an amazing job on the paint correction, paying attention to every minor detail, and I’m extremely happy with the end result.

Colour choice was a battle for me from the start, I didn’t really like any of the standard colours (four blues and no orange, purple or even green options, come on Ford!) and for a long time I had Grabber Blue on reserve, but eventually settled on Vapour Blue. I wasn’t able to choose any options, so I was lucky (imo) that it arrived specced with red Brembos, which really pop next to the blue. I have to say, no photo I’ve seen of Vapour Blue does it justice, in person it looks stunning and I'm happy with my choice - it's subtle but slightly sinister, especially at night under street lighting.

The first drive home, I’m not going to lie, was pretty emotional. The V8 purr is such a special sound, and like I said, I’ve wanted to own one since forever. It drives better than I could have imagined - comfortable, planted, quick and responsive. I want to do a few things with it in due course, but at the moment I’m just loving every minute I get to drive it. It’s my daily driver, so that’s a lot of miles. Next up is an oil change in the next few days and then some proper driving.

Beautiful! I wanted red brembos on mine, but it came with blue brembos as part of the appearance package. Are you planning any changes on it?

I had a bunch of plans here:.... https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/th...top-the-hop-upgrade-path.173862/#post-3469717

...but once I got it home this one speed bump en route to my house was immediately an issue and it can't be avoided! Taking it at an angle is fine, so maybe still consider lowering but there's so many nearby.

I’m still planning to get the Steeda STH kit though and UPR oil catch cans to start with.

Washed and detailed today, this is what I mean about the colour of the vapour blue, so many sparkles in the paint.
