Did your car during a first 1k km also eaten oil? I had full oil on collection, I checked. Now 1000 km later was minimum. Put 1 liter to make it full again. Is that normal? Answers opinions appreciated.

From what I read, oil consumption during break-in can happen and isn’t unusual.…but also not guaranteed to happen.

I wouldn’t worry about burning a litre/qt. of oil during break in. If it does it after 3000 km. Maybe then start to look into it.

also everyone seems to agree that the fill sweet spot is the oil hitting in the middle between the 2 dots, rather than at the top.

That makes me worried. Litre of oil seems to me a lot
Had you checked the oil before the 1000km? Because the factory fill seems to only show halfway on the dipstick markings, not at the full dot. I thought the same as you when I first checked it, but it turned out not to use any oil of note.

I checked it when I picked up the car from the dealer, it had 89km and I believe it was full. Maybe I overlooked it. To be honest it is difficult to see the level as the oil spreads over the dipstick from one side however could see the level on other side. Anyway I am going to keep close eye on it now. I get back here after some more miles/km

When checking oil, I hold a paper towel in one hand, pull the dipstick out very quickly, and lay it horizontally on the paper towel real quick to get an accurate reading before the oil starts to slide down the stick.

I will need to use my car on the highway fairly regularly when I first get it (approx 20 mins between 100-140kmh) followed by city driving up to 80kmh. I know the advice is to avoid highway use in this period but this simply won’t be possible in my case, so what tips/procedure should I follow for highway driving to conduct break in as best as possible?

I’ll try to do the first 200km locally this weekend before I have to hit the highway Monday morning…

Maybe use the paddle shifters so you can vary RPM bit more than autoshift, while on highway? Or mqybe just try to avoid long constant RPM? I dont think it said to avoid the highway but just not a constant RPM for long periods. Im sure your car will be fine. Enjoy!

Not a problem at all. There is no issue with highway use just take it easy and vary revs a bit.

Whoever told you to avoid highway driving was wrong. You should vary rpm's. That's easy to do on any highway. I would be concerned about a quart of usage. Maybe you need to take it out and run up the tach hard. Babying a new car is not necessarily good. Running the hell out of it is not necessarily good as one "tuner" thinks here. He's an idiot too. Just another know it all with OTHER people's cars.

You’re right, it doesn’t say avoid highways, it says ā€œavoid driving at high speedsā€. What counts as a ā€œhigh speedā€ šŸ˜‚
