Break in period?

I am not seeing an oil change mentioned anywhere on the official ford maintenance schedule, let alone one at 1000 miles as people here have stated they have done

Does ford strictly use the INTELLIGENT OIL LIFE MONITOR to change oil? 10k is really the first maintenance?

the oil life monitor uses various statistics from your vehicle to determine when to change your oil. i dont know what those statistics are specifically, but i do know that every day the monitor goes down by ~0.273%, which works out to the monitor going from 100% to 0% in a year if the vehicle never moves

Some additional insight on the OLM.

As mentioned above, if you change the oil and park the car, it will count down to 0% at the end of one year, or 1.9% a week. At the other extreme, if you hit the track or drive the car hard, you'll notice the OLM countdown quicker.

The OLM looks at time, temperature, driving duration of drives, how driven, etc.

At the time the S550 was on the market, there were statements in the Owners Manual referencing a 1,000 mi / 1,600 km break-in period, with steps on what to do.

In the S650, when I last looked into references to break-in mileage, while the printed version did not have a reference, there was one on-line.

To most S550 Owners, the mileage point seemed like a milestone. It was a step towards goodness to change the oil and filter then. I did. I also performed an oil analysis. I didn't cut my filter open, but some do. I saw enough physical matter in the oil pan that I'm satisfied.

Continued oil analysis has confirmed it takes several oil changes for everything to stabilize. Did I gain HP or extend the life of my engine? IDK. If I did (I'm not implying I gained over the stated numbers, just that I achieved the maximum possible) great. If not, I'm still satisfied I did the best I could with a new engine.

I do follow the OLM. Some don't. Some change there oil at specific mileage intervals no matter what. Oil analysis has confirmed my following the OLM is keeping things just fine.

Setting all that aside, I always recommend everyone follow the Owners Manual. If anyone would like to go above and beyond that, great.

Thank you for the link. I was planning on doing the oil change at 1000 miles. Have 600 now, but the car is currently not being driven much during the winter months.

I have 2000 miles on mine and I did a 1000 mile oil change no tick reported

There seems to be a noise that is now noticed but is not consistent and unconfirmed if it is the official tic. We used fords 5w-30 syn blend, or that’s the quart we picked up from parts the same day ‘they’ (dealer) did the 3k (one year) oil and filter change.

It will be a cold day in hell before I wait to 10.000 miles. They don't even check the oil level, or color of the oil?
