USB Port in mirror

My Uniden R8 requires 11 to 16 volts to operate. I believe that USB port will only support 5V. I didn't even try it - I used a cable with the taps for the rain sensor (behind the cover behind the rear view mirror) that had the Uniden R8 plug @ the other end. Detector is mounted under the rear view mirror with a Blendmount.

Could you post some pictures. So did you splice into the wiper sensor? I'm not the best at wiring as I'm color blind. My Uniden r8 came with a phone type power plug so not sure where or how to get power from mirror as I used the USB plug for my dash cam.

I have an older Escort and seems to function just fine. Alerts to automatic doors also. I never leave it on so I can't if it times out.

I think I mentioned this before, but.... I have a Rexing V1P with rear cam. This is the 5th one I've purchased from them for the various vehicles in the last 5 years or so. Never ever an issue with any of them. Oh! Mine is also powered from the mirrors USB Port (5 VDC).

Anyone run a Valentine V1 Gen2 from this port? Does it work? Can I use a splitter to run a dashcam? TIA

V1's need 12v+ Use a mirror tap, and tap into the connector up there.

yep, the standard for USB type A says the max voltage is 5V no matter what generation. only USB type C can deliver higher voltages, up to 48V
