Using the Mustang name on things like the Mach E is just sad

and an off road Mustang is just stupid

if they make a four door, use another name...

A Panamera is cool, but it’s no 911. Just sayin’.

And remember, an ICE is technically still an ICE even if you duct tape an electric assist motor to it and add weight, heat, complexity and cost. But in the strictest sense of the word a hybrid breaks no promises.
Sure, but I went with an e90 M3 sedan. Only difference with sunroof delete is approx 22 pounds of weight (coupe has carbon fiber roof). Looks and performs same (have to look to notice extra door handles), but insurance rate is 40% lower. Mustang could be the same. Easier to get passengers in and out and carries 5 instead of 4. Also retailed $10k less than coupe.

Interesting. Would you happen to know why the E90 M3 sedan retailed $10K less than the coupe? (besides the sunroof/cf roof)

There have been seven Mustangs in my family since my first and they are fun ICE cars that need to stay ICE powered. My dad bought his first of two Coyote engined Mustangs at 86 y.o. An electric Mustang is a travesty. People want them but for goodness sakes, Ford, honor the name better.

I've said it plenty of times to people, I wouldn't mind an electric Mustang that LOOKS like a Mustang and drives like one. I know I'll get the eggs thrown at me but I drive an automatic and am fine with it, and I wouldn't mind not spending $50+ a week on gas if I didn't need to.

But I want it to be a Mustang, not an SUV with a pony logo in the grill. If you gave me a 2 door coupe that had a GT's equivalent horsepower and pickup (and wasn't an execution disaster like the electric Charger is) I'd buy one.

That’s what’s funny, an actual EV Mustang would get eye rolls but people would’ve got over it. It’s the fact they keep doing random stuff.

Same thing happened when the Jeep JK 4 door came out in 2007. It too was sacrilege but they sell a lot when compared to the 2 door. (snip) So if it keeps the brand alive, why not.
That last part is the critical piece. It needs to work in conjunction with the 2 door, not be replacement for the 2 door (and Ford must remember this). I would absolutely love a 4 door Mustang type vehicle with a real (or at least 89-97 Thunderbird real) backseat with good performance and a nice V-8 engine. I would accept an electric sedan as well, provided it has a good range on it. (400 minimum, 500 preferred, just because 500 gets you 300 miles of real useable range on a long road trip)

Does this mean it’s more design than name that would encourage the purchase?

Not going to argue name as the name would not have an impact. Call it the Falcon, Galaxy 5.0, Thunderbird, Mach 4, or Mustang 4. Does not matter to me...
Slightly longer, bigger back seat, and a little more trunk (front seat and the cockpit are very nice IMO), along with a car that has decent performance and I will buy it.

But if you call it a Taurus, people are going to be looking for something other than a 4 door version of a Mustang, so to an extent, names WILL matter...

Take the current Mustang body/room and there won't ever be a battery for it as they currently are built/sized. The weight of it would also make it feel like driving a dump truck I would think. It's a no/go idea.

I'd actually be extremely happy with an 4-door Mustang if done right. Something about the size of a Ford Fusion but wider and AWD. While I think a 5-Liter GT would be cool and would love to see Dark Horse and Dark horse SC variants, what I would really love to see in a four-door mustang RS with a 418hp/440tq 3.0L Ecoboost 3.0L V6 along with a Mustang ST with the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 pushing 335hp/415tq as performance models above the standard 2.3L Ecoboost Mustang. Having the ST model with the 2.7L, a 10-speed auto and AWD would be a fun model, especially with a GT level suspension package. But the RS should be something really special, I think a car with that engine, a 7spd DCT, an AWD system with torque vectoring, Dark Horse level suspension and braking systems and a well tuned factory exhaust system would actually be pretty cool. An RS RTR version would be even more amazing. That powertrain with a Ford Performance tune that bumps power output to 445hp and 536lb-ft of torque would be more than enough for an extremely fun, affordable performance car that could take the mustang to a completely different level.
