It's not hyperbole when you are going to witness the death of the car scene in the next 20 years
IMO EV/Self-driving has little to do with it. It's a cultural and engineering shift and in 20 years much of the "car" generation will be dead or in nursing homes and cars that are able to be modified will be likewise scarce. A certain percentage of every generation of young men will always have this fascination with going fast in a straight line but short of slapping in 3rd-party ECU there won't be a way to 'hop up' a car that isn't limited to wheels/suspension/exhaust.

I guess if we can have the 'fighter/UAV' from Oblivion life my have some redeeming value.

If you want to buy an EV car, then buy it because you like the way it performs or suits your transportation needs. Don't buy one if you think it will save the environment, because it won't. New cars may all be EV in the next 15-20 years (maybe). But It will be years and years before ICE powered vehicles are no longer on the road.
