I wish I could try yours out man… really I’m happy you have a good one and hope it stays that way.
I really don’t think mine was a bad one, it was just all the s550’s which Is why Ford should be ashamed, instead they told people is was normal and under filled the trans fluid from factory which was impossible to check unless you trusted your Ford dealer to disassemble the underneath, to check it when warm which I don’t . Like wtf!
2 buddies with F150’s always in the shop for 10-speed issues too: absolute bullshit
Those underfilled A10s were doomed from the start. If you didn't figure it out right away, the damage was done and they were never right after that. Many people on the 6G forum also had issues with the shift logic like you describe. But most had it resolved with an update from Ford or a tune. Too many problems? - Yes. Bad quality control from Ford? - Yes. But if you recall the majority of people did not have any problems at all, and the forum was a sounding board for the disgruntled. Let's not forget there was a revision to the A10 internals in late 2022 that seems to have addressed some of this stuff.

So I get the bias based on your experience. I'd be pissed too, and don't blame you a bit if I went through that. But what happened to you was not the norm, and to say they were all like that is a stretch. I've yet to read about those issues with the S650. So I'll just agree to disagree. Besides, you got a Tremec that you love and it all worked out. If memory serves you wanted a manual to begin with. I blame the wife. 😉 🍻

Hahaha, yes , never listen to your wife with car purchases!
lesson learned.
I do agree, the forum is a small sample of majority and the S650 forum has way less negative feedback on the 10-speed compared to S550.
Maybe one day I’ll get over it.. lol
Enjoy your ride brotha!

I put over 30K miles on my 2018 S550 PP1 A10 and the transmission was rock solid for me.....sometimes in the corners it didnt do exactly what I wanted but it was close.....but it was always super smooth and in drag mode was a beast......

If I didnt work from home, I would totally rock a GT with an A10 again if I needed a commuter car .....

But for a weekend only car I prefer my manual ...

I'd still be rowing gears if it weren't my DD. But that's what the red one is for.

The 10AT on the S650 is super smooth compared with the S550, which I didn't owned, but tried, when I bought mine: the AT was the major (minus) factor which let me decided to remain with the manual (and bought the Bullitt). So when I moved to the S650 i was worried to experience a similar behavior, but with my surprise it was a different car, and I'm super happy with it.

Couple of things: the gearbox is tuned (very) different from "normal" to "sport"+, you can notice it especially on cold start when you want to drive slow in "auto", if you switch to sport (or track.. etc.) and you drive slow, the lowest gears will kick your ass when changing (it's not pleasant and sometime it behaves like there's a noob driving who doesn't know how to use the clutch in a manual), in "normal" it's smoother.
That's one of the reason of why I drive in "manual" when in sport, especially at low speeds.
And related to the above: the 10AT in manual gives a much different experience than the 10AT in "auto", in fact if I had a version without the paddles, I would be disappointed and I wouldn't enjoy it at all (coming from manual cars for my whole life).

Very nice! Most of my life I owned classic Mustangs......the only reason I have a newer one now is my youngest daughter is really into cars but doesnt like classic cars......so I got rid of my classic to get something newer so she would go to more car shows/ cars and coffee/ drives with me......but 65s/66s have always been my favorite....I think the 67 through 70s look really good also but I just like the smaller size of the 65/66s when driving.....

Nice! Must be quite a different driving experience hopping from one to the other!
It is! The clutch is stiff and the brakes arent nearly as responsive lol. But it's nice to go for a ride with no computers or electronics. The old girl drives surprisingly well.

S1 Mustangs were one of the earliest cars I worked on and drove that I genuinely thought to myself "I could totally daily this".

Easy to drive, easy to work on, Easy on the eyes. Really great cars.

My singular complaint is that they're leaky, thats really it.

Well said. Very easy to daily and work on. I had a '65 auto that I DD from a few years in the 90s. The 289 and 200 engines are super reliable.

And yes, the factory power steering and Auto transmissions always leak on those cars. But, I think you can say that on most old cars. My biggest challenge now is ethanol fuel wrecking the carb if it sits too long.

Honestly, most old cars leak just because they're old, but resealing them typically fixes the issue. But when it comes to Ford of that vintage, they literally just leak. Its something to do with the porosity of the metal they used in the blocks that just led to dripping. They'll bypass every rubber you slap on that bottom end, its why I always saw them come in with mountains of RTV trying to keep them together, which caused different issues. Same went for the Falcons and T-birds I worked on. Hardly something I care about, to be honest, but its worth considering. small oil leaks just means less rust on the frame in my eyes.

And yeah, Eth kills the carbs. It wasn't a problem when I was daily driving my Spit, but you'd see it all the time with peoples Healeys and Jags that just sat in a garage for months. Have you tried looking for any eth-free gas stations in your area?

No ethanol free near me. Though I'm told premium fuel has less in it. I started using a fuel stabilizer in it. And I also try to start it once a week.

How about a fuel shut off and let it run until empty? Yes would be a pain but if it’s gonna sit…

I respect whatever transmission choice a member chooses. But please remember this transmission is a Ford/GM collaboration so don't just slag Ford if you don't like it. I happen to love my A10 (2024 GT) as I can paddle shift it if I want to get a snortin' blastin' bark AND off a light (in auto mode) I will embarrassingly gap any Mustang 6 speed, plus a $hit load of other would-be 1/4 milers. I remember a younger time at a waterside bar where a guy with a go-fast was shooting his mouth off about his boat as compared to mine. He lost a lot of money that night! Any forum members who slag the A10 as crap compared to their 6s manual want to meet on a straight away.....I LOVE free money. Just sayin'
