How does active exhaust full loud (track mode/locked open/fuse-pulled) compare to a muffler delete?

Had a Camaro with active exhaust and it seemed to be basically a variable muffler delete. I pulled the fuse to make it perma-open for the entire 4 years I owned it, so got no value out of the "active" part.

Currently have a base GT, wondering if a cheap muffler delete would be similar to active exhaust track mode?

There are valves that open inside the mufflers. Track mode simply means the valves are all the way open so the chambers have maximum flow. I certianly don't interpret that to be the same as a muffler delete.

I'm sticking with the stock system. It's loud enough as it is, and if some over zealous cop decides to have a chat about noise I can say it's all as Ford made it.
Same.
To my ears the stock system sounds perfect.
To each his own though!
Make it your own.

I returned Ford performance x-pipe purchased with rewards points. Stock exhaust sounds good enough and you don't have to cut up your car

I've owned some stupid loud cars, and I know I'm old

Being able to go from stupid loud to only kinda loud when I want, and more importantly when I'm coming home, is a feature I really appreciate.

Definitely not the same as a muffler delete. Muffler deletes are for idiots IMO especially on a Mustang, they just sound so raspy with a Coyote.
Active exhaust is definitely my favorite option though. Quiet mode and track mode at the flip of a “switch” just can’t be understated.

Am I deaf?

People are talking about coming home using the quiet exhaust mode.

Even if my car is in track, If I come home and I don't slam my foot on the pedals, the car is relatively silent.

How do you guys come home? Reving the engine to 7k in reverse just to park your car on the driveway?

I do not consider AE a muffler delete. Muffler and resonator delete can be brutally loud, all the time.

For those not familiar with the system, I'm attaching some photos of a valve, the flap in the pipe and the internals of a AE muffler itself.

Ford has spent a good many years getting the exhaust system to where it is. I consider it one of the best. Most people who change their exhaust, they later post of a common problem: it's loud as hell.

I've gotten in the habit of starting the car with the garage door closed, out of respect for late morning risers and shift workers. Once settled down, I open the door and go my way.

I enter and exit my neighborhood in normal mode and drive like a regular car. Leaving, I switch to Sport+, which works well for me, the local area, traffic, etc.

sure sign of an idiot incapable of understanding exhaust flow or marginal gains is when someone starts talking about muffler deletein a car with active exhaust that basically becomes free flow when valve is open.

you can’t really try and teach them because they aren’t capable of understanding.

unless they are making 1000whp then the actual restriction is the pipe size/length.

I agree. And since I like my neighbors, why piss them off unnecessarily. Active exhaust on my 350 is a blessing.
