That's a miss conception. I'm not talking about taking something away but rather adding (no not weight) to the experience. Imagine having a 6.x or even 7.x L engine, pushing some 550 or 600hp with an overall weight of less than 1.7 tons and the option to choose between RWD and AWD by the switch of a button... Performance has always been a staple of muscle cars but not as of late...

And yes, you can have all of that for less than $50k if Ford wanted to. You cannot have it with a nice interior, high quality materials and an almost perfect build quality but that's not what muscle cars are known for...
I think my mind has changed a little after reading this post. It is well known that Porsche sells so many other cars and variants of their sports cars to allow them to make enthusiast models and make them somewhat affordable.

So how can Ford modify the Mustang to drastically increase sales to people who want a sports car but don't care about specs but also have the budget to give enthusiast the "affordable" models that offer better performance? Lighter/Hybrid/AWD/Aluminum/4 door/Bigger engine. This has really been the debate on this forum. The S550 was simply a great model.

I hope they can figure out a balance to keep the V8 alive for 20 more years.

I like a lot of what you're laying down. But 1.7 tons is a little over 3,700 lbs. I just don't see how Ford would be able to throw in a larger, heavier 6 or 7 liter engine while also losing a few hundred lbs over the current car. How much weight would they lose if they ditched the rear seat? Seems like it's pretty useless on current mustangs, unless you're driving toddlers, no-one can fit back there.

I'd start there, ditch the backseat and you could lose double digit lbs, and save money so you lose money while saving money.

By the way, I dont see any Ferrari or BMW with a better time on the Ring. Think about that.
Just FYI, Ferrari has their own private track (Fiorano) that they typically test and set times at, so they don't typically send a factory team out to set a Nurburgring lap time. The times that are out there are almost (if not all) non-factory times. Setting an official Ring time is basically just for publicity, so they don't need to bother. They're going to sell every car they make regardless.

I have no idea if BMW sets factory times. None of this info is really relevant to the discussion, I thought I'd just throw it out there.

Yeah that’s what Ford did already though. Ford is one of those companies that had a little bit of something for everybody.

With the Mustang people are just at a crossroads with it either going more “sports car” or leaning GT it feels like. It’s always been kinda both but now Ford tries to make that sports car push with GT3 and stuff.

Lots of automakers run their own tests in the Ring, not only german ones. However, Sport Auto(german magazine) uses it for benchmarking all supercars.
Check what other cars are below the GTD.
What's not relevant about this?

I was saying that me pointing out what Ferrari does wasn't relevant, not the times in general. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I'm not sure there's anything new here, but Top Gear looked at the GTD. It looks to me like they looked at it before the Nurburgring run but then updated the video before putting it up.

Funny thing i noticed is in the screens for changing modes, they have a GTD specific animation. Which is kind of a bummer on my dark horse when I go into the change modes, it just shows a GT instead of the dark horse 🙃

That's apparently one of the things that $300K will get you :)

guess unreal/epic charges a premium for animations that you can make in blender 😆

A free program lol. I'm more of a gravity sketch man myself if anyone is curious about what sort of free modeling programs are out there.
