I am not talking “inflation calculator”

you have to use the market to place a true value on not just inflation, but the time difference… like the Big Mac index.

re do your Calc with the S&P 500, or SPX
12,999 in 1988 … IS 290K in today’s “market adjusted” dollars…

and it’s far more representative of the true cost differential, cars have gotten far less expensive for a superior product.

I should've said "other Corvettes" because you can clearly see that the ZR1 shares more with the rest of the Corvette lineup than the GTD does with the Mustang lineup. The ZR1 shares the unibody, complete interior, most of the body panels, brakes, transmission, and most of the engine parts with the Z06 (and much of that is shared with the base Stingray). The GTD shares the unibody, some of the interior, and some engine parts (with the GT). That's it. The few body panels that look the same aren't the same since they're carbon fiber. The wheels and tires, brakes, seats, some interior trim, suspension, and transmission are all different. The engine is dry sump. Basically everything that determines how a car drives is different. Not to mention that all Corvettes go down the same assembly line and the GTD is built by Multimatic.
It's pointless to argue any further. There isn't a rational argument out there that would convince him...

Yep, now we're finally getting somewhere, with the comments...... The mountainous amount of data that went into the sub 7 time @ Nurburing will be gold to future Mustang development - if - it hopefully continues. It just might with Trump in the USA and Polievre in Canada (the drill/LNG brothers) putting the run on the windmill/solar power nutters. MY GT convertible was parked next to two late model 'vetts this summer three boys got out of their parent's car and wanted to look at my Mustang's motor and asked to sit in thye car. I let one hit the start button. They loved the sound. I overheard one say at least it looks like a real car not a transformer. Yeah, here in NA we make real cars. In my yout.... 283, 289, 302, 327, 340, 396, 409, 427, 440, 454 etc. etc. ....right off the shelf....then we started stroking them. Every car guy I met in Europe (for 4 years) wanted to get their hands on our $shit. For brief periods of time I owned a Porsche (boring) and an XKE (nice when you could get it to start) for true fun, excitement, raw power and work on it at home WE have the $hit and always have but when we want to show what we can do Carroll Shelby humbles the big Enzo Ferrari team and now Mustang does a sub 7 and that was just a start. Nissan's going bust and then we have the de-tuned European dinky toys. Too funny....and people wonder why everyone wants to get into NA. We have the $hit baby! Even our pick-up trucks are awesome.

I read this whole thread. I don't really want to try and Google it. Can someone explain why they went forward with a wet track? Why not wait for optimal conditions?

If I had to guess,

1. running out of time
2. did it anyway and would have only shown a sub-7 time.
3. running out of time

Tbh: nothing to lose. If bad it was wet, if good it was wet. Imo; If you’re gonna be first you don’t wait for another

They wanted to be the first American brand under 7 minutes.

for stuff like that you need to book the whole track for a day, since its a public area that can only be done so often so it was more or less "go now or not at all"

hence why theyre going back next year for another go

Looking at the onboard vid the track wasn't wet, maybe the odd damp patch here or there between the wheelpaths but the racing line was dry.

Temp was 21 C which is about 70F so not that hot either.

Wow. Two years and millions of dollars and you have to go when the hotel has a vacancy. Lol

Perhaps this forum can agree on one thing. Thumbs up if this is the best sounding nurburgring lap of all time! I can't stop watching it to listen.

@GripTime .... in the video they mentioned available track time. This course is expensive to book and is in big demand. Plus the expense of having the techs, drivers, crews, rental space for equipment, meals and lodging is incredible expensive. I think in his video of drifting the course Vaughn Gitten Jr. said it took several (3) years to get the times lined-up. BTW that video of him drifting his 800HP Mustang is awesome as is Vaughan Gitten Jr. drifts the cloverleaf.
