I do not have it on my car, but I'm pretty sure you have to turn it off every time you restart your car.

You do. Unless you roll it in track mode, maybe sport too I’m not certain.

The auto start stop is a function that Ford needed to put on the cars to get some points from the government of working on their emissions.

You have to manually turn it off every time you start the car.

@brian5814. My 2024 GT was built in September 2023. It has a auto stop feature with the red button. It was set to off at the dealership and has been off since. I push the button to start the car and to stop it, the rest of the time does nothing while driving - no shutting off when I stop at a traffic light, for example.

The only reason I'm glad my car has that feature is to fill in that blank button.

I have a full option Mustang and would be irritated with 1 blank button.
The inverse is also true: i’m glad i have that blank spot, it means i don’t have that function šŸ™‚. I’ve got every option as well, including the option that excludes a function, a true option. 😁

back to op: there is a tsb and maybe a here a there there a here recall (on again off again ironic isn’t it) related to the assumed start status function. For the most part, it’s my understanding any mode other than normal will not engage the routine. There are also specific (funky circumstances) that are required before activation.

I've always hated auto start/stop. But, it's is much less annoying with a manual. I have to have the clutch up, in neutral, for it to activate. Also, all of my custom modes disable it. I typically put it in to sport mode as soon as I get in, that disables it. I can enable it at some of my super long stop lights with the button.

I have a 2024 Eco-Boost premium, and in Sports Mode you can program it to stay off. In track and drag mode it is always off.

I wonder about the programming in my Ranger. I have the Ford tune, so in Sports Mode It is always off. Before the tune was installed, it didn't work. Then after about a month, it started working in Drive, but quit after about a week. It has never worked since! I was hoping the same thing would be true about my Mustang. Sadly, nada!

I should add... The auto stop/start is one of the EPA's worst decisions, all for about 1% (if that) in fuel savings. And for the record, see if you can juxtapose that with the extra cost of early failure of mechanical parts replacement! Just plain dumb nuts!

You are mixing things up here.

The red button you are mentioning is to start the engine and turn it off.

We are talking about the start/stop feature that tuens the engine of automatically while standing in front of a traffic light.

Simply not correct. The starter system (or ISG in some cars) is all upgraded to mean failure is NOT more likely. In addition independent research has confirmed that fuel savings are as much as 10% but usually between 5% and 7% which is very significant globally!

Plenty of easy to find information from sources all over the world.
