Looking to add PPF just on the hood, from and front fenders and would like to know what it would cost? I live in CA so it'll be probably better more expensive than anywhere else but it'll give me an idea.

I did a full car PPF with Kavaca supposedly the best and around 10mm thick for $5000. Then had the top hood vent and black gloss grille ppf for 440 extra. The winglets, side skirts, vert top, taillights were also ceramic coated ion Kavaca as well included with the full ppf price. Kavaca tinted all windows and windshields for another $1000. If you're willing to ship the car to Reno i can give you my shop's name. Their products are supposedly better than Xpel and thicker too, more a professional ppf and ceramic coating than the consumer grade Xpel uses

Did the front end on mine - front clip, hood, fenders, and mirrors with suntek for a little over $1800.

I went down the rabbit hole of learning how to polish and did the paint correction on the rest of the car then ceramic coated it myself with gyeon mohs & skin. This was after practicing on the family minivan and SUV which all came out well.

I did what @Southpaw78 did. Exact same thing.

PPF first on the front clip. Waited a week.
Full ceramic coating on everything after that.

Here is what it looks like on a white DH: 2024 Dark Horse Premium "Freyja" (Chassis # 7161)

Waiting until October 2nd for the curing and then it's time to break out the foam cannons!

A shop told me they don't recommend PPF in the front only since my car is white and the difference between where the coating is applied and where it's not will be very obvious.

I'd set that guidance aside, seek out another shop and look at their work.

I'm using Xpel PPF, 10 mil in thickness, warrantied for 10 years.

https://gleamworksdetailing.ca/how-thick-is-ppf/

https://www.protechautoshield.com/blog/paint-protection-film-thickness

If using the right materials and applying correctly, PPF is unnoticeable until you get right up on it.

Most shops cut the pieces out on large plotters. As the PPF approaches an object, like a door handle, there is a clean, uniform transition from PPF to the untreated portion. As the protection reaches a panel edge, there's a bit extra, to make the bend and be tucked past. As to PPF and non-PPF surfaces, there is no obvious distinction.

PPF can be accomplished in a few ways, based on budget:

- The front half of the vehicle, all forward facing areas, first few inches of the roofline and rocker panels

- The first two thirds of the vehicle. Trucks with large tires and poke, will often do this

- Full PPF

At the extreme, the shops can remove trim, door handles and mirrors, laying the PPF edges underneath, so when it's all put together, it's completely unnoticeable. People with upper-end sports cars will often do this.

Along the way, you can have ceramic coatings applied, on top of PPF or on untreated surfaces. If living in an area of with a vehicle that's expected to see a lot of grime, ceramic coating could be worthwhile.

While in the shop getting any PPF, check into ceramic coating the wheel rims. The car is already there anyway. Ceramic coating the rims will make them easier to keep clean.

Once installed, the PPF has to dry. Give it close to two weeks for any bubbles to work themselves out, the material shrinking and settling on the car. If you can expose the car to Sun and heat during the day, it helps with this process. Do not handle the surface while curing. Do not wash the car. After a week to ten days, you should have a follow-up appointment, to review the work.

The installers can give you tips on how to maintain the PPF at its best. There's not much to it.

For general care, I use the following products:

- Maintenance soap: Gyeon Bath. Use as often as you want

https://gyeonusa.com/products/q2m-b...remlHrTYRvlv-RKs5X2ixnOrd2Dmk4gqMjbcoO-Ehye-j

- Mild Decontamination Soap: Gyeon PPF Wash. I used this soap three to four times a year. It's a light decon soap, safe for all surfaces, that helps deep-clean the PPF

https://gyeonusa.com/products/q2m-p...LB6K-dLLJp5sMnyVhdxIWoS8yRkw1KpC9rI57EUp__MEZ

- PPF Sealer: Gyeon PPF Maintain. This is used a few times a year, on the days I decon. Simple to use. Spray on a microfiber and slow-walk across the panel. The sealer will dry in moments. Flip the towel over to its dry side and buff. There's zero residue or dust of any kind. You'll know if you've covered an area: the PPF will feel smooth and frictionless, while unprotected sections will feel like you're dragging your towel across the sidewalk

Whatever coverage you get, you'll appreciate it. PPF saves me five to six times a season, as noticed by the remnants of the object strikes afterwards.

I'm now considering just doing ceramic coating....I'm getting quotes between $2,200 and $2,500 just for front PPF! I've never had PPF for any of my cars before so I am hesitant to spend that much money.

Last month I had xpel installed on my new GT. Front bumper, Partial hood, Partial front fender, pillars, 10 inches on roof, mirrors, door cups and door edges. Cost including WA state tax was 1500 bucks. Same company did my 2009 Shelby (still own it) in 2011 and it was 800 bucks back then.

Did you notice a difference between the portions that had the PPF and the portions that didn't on the white 2009?

The PPF has been on the white car for over 13 years. It has "yellowed" slightly. It's not very noticeable unless I point it out. If you zoom in on the photo I posted in my 1st reply you will notice it and this fender photo. EXTRA PHOTOS FOR EYE CANDY.
