There’s several interesting oil comparisons on YouTube done by Project Farm where he does tests on various oil viscosity’s and brands which is at least interesting. 5W20 and 5W30 appear very close to each other in every way even flow. Worth a watch If you’re interested.

Are these the same experts who decided where to put the oil filter?
What's wrong with where the filter is? It's upright (no oil spills when you take it off).

Or are you whining about the tray you have to take off? That took me less than a minute to remove.

There's been lengthy debates on oil that dates back to the 70's. With the introduction of social media, internet and forums, its comical to read some of the responses....

Well in that case, yes. Lol, no spills when you take if off through the wheel well?

Can't answer that. I spent the whopping 1 minute removing the tray instead 😉

When you receive the parts and are reviewing the instructions, first few pages will have a paragraph specifying the weight of oil to use.

As an example, referenced are the instructions for the Whipple Kit, F150, Coyote.

https://performanceparts.ford.com/download/instructionsheets/IS_M-6066-F150SCA_62822.PDF

"Whipple highly recommends running Ford Motorcraft 5W-50 full synthetic motor oil (PN #XL-5W50-QGT) vs the stock 5W-20. You will need up to 8 quarts for an oil change along with a Motorcraft oil filter #FL-500."

I attempted to find the Whipple Mustang instructions and could not readily locate them.

The weight changes, primarily due to the increase in internal pressures and forces. Spark plug gap will also change. If contacted, Whipple might offer some further guidance for those installing in high heat areas.

To anyone, as others have begun discussing, if higher-than-normal CHT or oil temps are being seen, I'd look at additional cooling, either a dedicated oil cooler or increased under hood airflow. Conversations on track forums or at the track could help.
Yeah, this is where I am confused. Motorcraft 5w-50 is an SN rated oil, not SP (while I can't find it's ILSAC rating, SN is generally GF-5). So Whipple isn't recommending to use oils specifically formulated to reduce LSPI (low calcium, etc.).

And that’s probably why a lot of the Focus RS engines in the US have issues with LSPI due to them using 5W50. In Europe the spec is 5W-40 and they have LSPI formulations for the same engine

That, IDK. I can think of a few variables at play. I'd definitely chat up Whipple, giving them the setup and typical driving conditions, while confirming the latest guidance. I have read several posts of drivers preferring Euro-spec formulations.

That's interesting and explains a lot. I don't follow Euro spec. So Ford may be limited to API/ILSAC specs here in the USA. I believe SP GF-6a is limited to 0/5w-20, 0w/5w/10w-30.

Could be worth looking into. The Euro specs do have a lot going for them.

- Because of the higher service intervals seen in EUR, the Total Base Numbers are often greater

- A lot more turbos and boosted applications in EUR, so many oils are blended to support

- Higher temperature requirements (see Autobahn), so many are made for demanding situations
