I did this. Wish the Pioneer sub fit a bit better and didn't require such trimming.

System sounds way better.

I did not put any polyfill in to reduce the volume of the sub box. If I revisit this I think I will try it with some polyfill. Pretty sure the box is >20L in volume.

Oooor I'll just get a proper sub/box/Amp.
It only requires one very small lug to be removed?

Good job!

If you are bored you could play a test tone ("sweep") and check the frequency curve with e.g. the free app "Spectroid" in case you're an Android guy.
Similar apps for iPhone available, too, but don't know which ones are good.

Sweeptones can be played or downloaded for example here:
https://www.audiocheck.net/testtones_index.php
Specific for subwoofer frequencies:
https://www.audiocheck.net/testtones_sinesweep20-200.php

The website as a whole is absolutely awsome: https://www.audiocheck.net/

Youtube has lots of these sweeps too.

Microphone to be placed near where your head is and for all measurements held in the same position of course.

Now you have the chance to make an objective before & after check :sunglasses::)

Then rather try a louder sub first.
The Pioneer needs much more power to come to live than typical other subwoofers.
At 1 Watt its "sensitivity" is 74 db while typical other woofers start at about 84 to 90 db.

To get an idea:
For a volume of 94 db, the Pioneer needs 100 Watts, while a DD Audio Redline RL SW 10 needs less than 10 Watts (!).

And Polyfill will reduce the loudness of the woofer even further.
You have me curious, so I ordered the DD sub to see if what you say is true. I'll try it with and without the polyfill on both see if there is a difference as well.

DD is probably gonna wonder what's driving all the orders for this discontinued subwoofer. LOL.

That Pioneer sub is pretty old as well, probably should have been discontinued years ago... but they kept selling so well that they kept building them.

The screw holes don't line up, you have to modify the outer ring of the speaker.

The series 10 and 10a are identical except the logo on the front (one says Redline and the other one has the DD-logo).
A rather confusing webside they have.

Or just drill new holes which is what I did.
That's what I am considering doing. How did you prevent the metal chips from contaminating the magnet, voice coil etc ? Or did you drill new holes in the enclosure instead?

Bolt circle of enclosure is too large for the speaker ring, so you need to drill pilot holes into the enclosure. Rotate the speaker a bit so that the new holes are not too close to the existing ones.
