Did a little upgrade on the stock subwoofer after following a thread on the s550 forums. The pioneer replacement subwoofer was only $79 and took less than an hour to do!

Sounds tighter and more crisp than the OEM subwoofer.

Honestly kind of surprised with how much better it sounds over the crappy cardboard subwoofer that comes factory.

I figured I would make a video on the install because I couldn't find one and its just easier to follow along a video than sift through 40 pages of a forum thread

Makes a huge difference in sound quality. Great video, wish I had this 3 months ago, would have had a fighting chance to save the trim ring, haha

I completely misread the 550 thread you talked about. Thought the pins were on the ring, not the mesh grille. Went about it the wrong way, got the first pin to pop without breaking, not so much the following 3 and just said "F'it", yanked the the rest off. A little velcro and that 4 bar cover, I'm good with it. No rattles
S650 Mustang $79 Subwoofer Upgrade (Pioneer TS-A250D4 10" Sub) - IT SOUNDS GREAT! 20240422_203446

Thanks for making a video. There is nothing like visually seeing something being done and then following that. I am not too familiar with sound systems, I have the B&O system, would upgrading this sub change the overall sound sounding better or just the bass in music sounds better?

I'm not a huge audio person, but I like a little bass and turn it up on a song that has good bass to feel it. The stock sub is very sloppy when it gets loud. This cheap upgrade cleans the bass up a ton, so when it hits, it's tight and concise versus the stock sub bottoming out so to speak.

Does it really sound better or is there a placebo effect?

I ask because the sound of a subwoofer has much more to do with the enclosure and amplification than the actual woofer itself. The aftermarket woofer may be a touch more efficient and therefore a few dbs louder???

My GF was in the car before and after. She asked why the bass was louder the first time after I did the swap, so take that for what it's worth. She might have been messing with me because I was doing the swap on the kitchen counter while she was eating dinner that night, haha.

Tuxon's video shows you how poor the factory sub is compared to the Pioneer, so it does perform better. It does not blow out your windows with mind numbing bass, you'd need to add a bigger amp if you want to shake the ground under you. For the money, it's a fantastic upgrade to get a better thump if that's your sort of thing :like:

Definitely not placebo in my opinion. The bass is much tighter and more crisp. It’s probably my favorite creature comfort mod I’ve done to date. And for the price, you really can’t beat it.

obviously upgrading to a dedicated sub, enclosed and amp is going to be way different. But I’m not a fan of hearing my license plate rattle 😂

For the price, I can’t imagine there’s a better mod out there for the car. Thanks for the video! Gonna do it this weekend!
