The dash cam doesn’t know what it needs to focus on. Having a wider angle means it’s considerably more likely to catch what it needs to. Unlike a scope that you are very intentionally pointing at one specific thing.
Ok. I am no dash cam expert. But, well, they are not all displayed with that fisheye look, right? I mean, the Garmin seems to be advertising this "wide angle" feature, and you are not going to get a wider angle without distorting the view on the screen. Right? Or am I wrong somehow?

Well it’s a very high res camera so it’s not like it’s difficult to discern detail even at the outer edge. But no way to get a super wide shot without some sort of distortion at the edges. I feel it’s worth it. If it were 720p or 480p like some cameras instead of 2160 then the distortion would probably be too much.

Ok, I understand now. I thought you were saying you did not see what I was describing. Instead, you say it is worth it because of what you gain. Reasonable explanation. :like:

When I was into photography in the days of film, wide lenses with minimal edge distortion were mega expensive.
I've heard of image manipulation software that can minimise or eleminate that. But never needed to look into it fully.

Well? Does your car have the port too? I know it isn’t on every trim level. I have a 401A GT Convertible, 2024.
I can confirm it is there on my Dark Horse Premium, annoyingly it's a USB-A rather than a USB-C but I suppose that is to be compatible with more dashcams out of the box.

I came across a very helpful install video on @5.0ALM's YouTube channel for the Viofo, thanks man. I thought I was going to have to get someone to install this for me but you made it look super straightforward (apart from over those pesky corners you mention in the vid).

Is it annoying because Viofo uses USB-C or for some other reason?

Can you share the video?

Annoying because USB-C is smaller form factor, and therefore neater, and goes in both ways round. I know it’s only install once and it’s done, but the world has moved on from USB-A years ago already, it’s basically old tech.

@5.0ALM did you happen to measure what length of cable would be needed for connecting to the rear camera without having to shove a bundle of wires into the roof void?

I just found this dongle and watched Vortex Radar's review that plugs into the rear view mirror's power to "hardwire" without needing to wire into the fuse box. Does anyone know if hardwiring is necessary with the Mustang or does the USB-A port provide constant power?

I have one in my BRaptor, though I think it may be a previous model. It works great. The OEM rear view is useless with the 37" tire hanging back there. That's the main reason I got it. The front cam was just a bonus.
