I think I'm going to finally change out my HP tires to the michelins. I'm really nervous about my rims getting dinged up and some 17 year old taking off the weights with a hammer and a butter knife. Who do you all trust in changing out you tires and being really careful? The Ford Dealer, Discount Tire, or like a custom car place? Thanks

I had a problem with Discount one time. Damaged one of my rims on my Lincoln Towncar. They made it right as a replacement could not be had. They sent the wheel off to California for a complete repair. Installed a temp wheel while repair was being made. It came back perfect and the final bill to them was just under $400. I still go to them as stuff can happen no matter where you go but knowing they will do the right thing and make it right. If you are concerned talk to the manager that you want one of their more experienced techs.

I did go into Discount and told them my concerns. He said " we know what we are doing, we're professionals" lol
They were doing a Corvette when I was there. They used floor jack's and they were all really padded. So it looks like they are careful.

Never had a problem at discount tires. They’re policies are usually pretty good and customer service will always treat you well

Do you pay for the replacement warranty? I think they wanted around $140 per tire. Seemed like a lot. My DH is not a Daily

I have a bike with carbon fiber wheels. They come with plastic guards - delrin I think, to place against the bead breaker and prevent marring the c/f. That said, it’s a challenge finding someone who’s confident they won’t f* up your wheel.

I ask straight away, ‘can you change the tire on my $3300 wheels without screwing them up, yes or no?’ if there’s any doubt, I move on.

Honestly, I think car wheels are a bit easier but, ask up front. if you get a bad vibe, don’t do it.

I had PPF, tint and ceramic work done by a local detail shop. I took my wheels and tires to them. Not only did they do the tire install, they ceramic coated the rims.

I tend to stay away from national chains and give the business to a local owner. Not only does the money help someone in the immediate area, they have skin in the game to do a good-to-great job. Many are auto enthusiasts.

Some of the national chains and franchise places can be good, but they are often dealing in low-cost, high volume operations. In-general, they won't care for things the same way we do.

It can sometimes be more expensive, but I can drop things off and shake hands with the folks I know without a care in the world, knowing I'll get great service, product and results.

I use a mom and pop shop near where I live. They have been in business for a long time and always take care of me. Not a fancy shop but they are very careful and knowledgeable.

I used to use discount but they hosed my wheels twice. Switched to NTB no isses on 6 sets of tires.

But i personally think just about any of those kinds of services are a crap shoot anymore.

Likely; your best bet is to check with other car people/friends/associates in your area for what, if any, recent tire changing experiences they've had. at a shop in your area. If you come up with some likely candidates (shops); don't be afraid to go in and strike up a polite conversation with the Manager, Asst. Manager to try and assess what level of professionalism/expertise they "might be" imparting to their crew. Ask to see the shop area? Clean (it's relative) and tidy? Nasty and chaotic?

Many shops have windows into the work area. Watch the crew at work for a while. However they're working on "that guy's" wheels is how they'll be working on yours. Keep an eye peeled for whether or not they're impact wrenching the lug nuts, or hand starting and using a manual torque wrench to final spec or not

Good luck!

Discount tire for me. If I had some type of exotic car I would probably use dealership.

I also like to use discount tire`s insurance. It has helped me on multiple tires over the years.

i trust the guys at the dealer i work at, plus i never leave my car's side if it's in the shop and am highly hesitant to leave it anywhere that is not where i am for any amount of time. basically, i'm one of the most difficult types customers to deal with, "waiter or no work"
