For me a screen protector is very necessary.
It's just plastic, so if you scratch it, you can replace it. If for some reason you scratch your screen, you can't just replace it.

Is anybody really going to own a 2025 Mustang in 10 years that bought it new? Not many I suspect.

I have the same question.

I can see the need on cell phones because everyone drops them or has something contact the screen that shouldn't. Only thing that contacts my car screen is my finger. I don't have rug rats climbing around my cars....
I agree, I'm usually the only one in the car. Once I have things set up, I don't have a need to be touching the screen.

The protector might not be necessary if one doesn't mind fine scratches. I only did the right screen as the one in front doesn't get touched. I went with gloss to match OEM. I also went with glass and install was easy.

Does it affect the sensitivity of the touch? I've had screen protectors on my cell phone that required a much stronger touch to have it work.

First post second pic👌. Clear pic just like mine showing the screen protector
If it’s not a screen protector what is covering the screen. I can clearly catch mine with a finger nail.
If the screen is that soft, it's possible that you could buff out scratches with some plastic polish if you already have them. I've used this stuff on plexiglass aquaria (and my titanium shift knob after it fell out of the box onto the garage floor) and it leaves no marring on the screen.
