How are the shifters?
I haven't kept up on any of this stuff but there was a time when they weren't so great.... albeit this was probably 15 or 20yrs ago and Uniden wasn't even barely an after thought then either.

I think there are many views on the shifters, mine is simple. On side road driving, I drive about the speed limit but on the open highways, when safe, I like to press it. I have found success on several occasions where I should have been caught, so I assume they work well. As many threads have pointed out, using my system coupled with Waze I have found very good success.

Any updates on the Escort built in CI system? From what I have read it's not that great however I prefer an "all in one" rather than piecing together a system.
Currently I run a V1 Gen2 with JBV1 or V1 Companion... Sadly LIDAR is huge where I live (L.I. NY) so I need something extra.

My built in system is great and offers strong peace of mind and not overly sensitive

I use a V1 gen 2. Coupled with Google maps. To get the police feed on Google you have to be in navigation mode.

Also have a gen 1 but I’m not using it. It needs to be sent in for some upgrades.

Not taking anything away from the Waze users, but since Google bought them (few years back) they have introduced the same features. I have read using the user input from both Waze and Google to make a master feed pushed out to both brands.

Anyone have any additional information / experiece on Waze and Google?

I see Google Maps getting better but nothing near as useful as Waze. Just my experience.

Started out decades ago with the first Escort detector. The one with the big yellow lamp. Had some nice Bel over the years. Settled on a V1 a decade ago. It was simply the best. My latest is a V1 Gen2. I use V1 Companion on an iPhone but have also used JBV1 as well. Both are very nice. I also run Waze as well. A detector is not a replacement for stupidity. If you are the only car on the road, don't speed. I find the detector is most useful in 1 horse towns where the speed limit keeps changing. The top tier detectors are all good and you cannot go wrong with any of them. Don't cheap out on this !!

I have you beat in 1978 I had a actual dash mounted box called The Fuzz buster. I was one of the first comercial radar detectors.

Same time not the same the fuzzbuster had a speaker and red light that flashed when detecting radar It kind of worked okay. Your dads is cool I had mine in a 68 Cortina GT loved that little car.

That website lists several different Fuzzbusters. #1, #2, #3, #4, II, III, Elite and Elite II. Marketing isn't what it used to be.

Let me get this straight. Ford builds and hypes the Mustang GT as a "performance" car, but the dealer won't "hammer" it to see if there's a specific problem? If they design and build a car, they should have a way to diagnose or reproduce a problem. If they don't want to take on the responsibility of testing your car in that manner, I'd offer to take the tech for a ride so that you can duplicate it.

Heres what I had.

This one appears to be a FuzzBuster II, which Car and Driver claims they found to be a Cincinnati Microwave Escort stuffed inside a FuzzBuster box when they tested a variety of radar detectors in Feb 1979.


An interesting bit of history:

After his graduation from the University of Cincinnati in the mid 70's, a guy named Mike was working for an electronics parts distributor selling parts to Electrolert, the maker of the FuzzBuster. Mike's degree was in Electrical Engineering and he had come up with a new, superior radar detector design which he took to FuzzBuster in hopes of selling them more parts. Thankfully, he was turned away because they thought it would cost too much to produce and sell. So he and a friend (Jim Jaeger) started their own company (Cincinnati Microwave) and built it themselves. Eventually, disputes about how to run the business would see Jaeger buying out Mike's share in the company and having him sign a no-compete agreement. Cincinnati Microwave became what we all know as Escort Radar today, and after his no-compete expired, Michael Valentine gave us the V1 in 1992. Rest in Peace, Mike!
