I've used V1's since the late 80's. the Gen 1 was OK, but not class leading. It was the only one with arrows for front or rear detection.
Then the Gen2 arrived and it was a game changer. Huge range, I've had 5km detections and not just on straight flat roads. Pair that with the JBV1 app and you have photo radar detection, speed cam and LPR cam databases, crowd sourced alerts superior to waze, aerial surveillance detection, effective false suppression and enough features to nerd out for hours. But it can be nearly plug and play.
