Not sure if it's been posted before but two good places for information about radar detectors are:

https://www.rdforum.org/

Different sections covering every aspect including software programs like JBV1 and others.
Much better than some of the fanboy forums.

https://www.vortexradar.com/best-radar-detectors/

This guy is the ULTIMATE radar detector geek. His tests are extremely in depth, sometimes a little long winded, and from what I can tell after following him for years quite unbiased. He calls them as he tests them and if a test has abnormal results he gets the manufacturer involved and retests. Usually it's some firmware issue BTW.
I have to disagree. I was on RDF for many years. It's turned into a Uniden fanboy club. It was pro Radenso prior to that until the Theia debacle. It really went south after it was sold a few years ago.
And, I have to say Vortex has no credibility with many knowledgeable radar people.
He only enthusiastically promotes his affiliate links, and is very nit picky with others.
Funnily enough, he seems to use a V1 Gen2 a lot privately.

Well, in spite of my animosity because of their service, I did talk to a woman there this morning and ordered a V1. Already have a tracking number.

She said they were using a "recruiting firm". That pretty much explains their problem. The excuses are coming from their recruiting firms, not from within. It always works that way when a company isn't willing to pay enough.

Whatever, I still think they make the best detector and I need one so sometimes one just needs to suck it up.

My V1 is due in Monday!!! I'm SOOO excited, LOL!! Now I have to figure out how to use it since it doesn't sound totally plug and play. I just need some protection....like everyone else here.

Excellent stuff.
The first thing to do is download V1 Connection app. This makes set up much easier, and is a good basic display/controller.
The King of V1 apps is JBV1, but is Android only and can be daunting for new users. But it is a phenominal countermeasure system.
Feel free to PM me as much as you like with questions.

Thanks since I'm not an electrical nerd.

What all is involved in "set up"? Is it not just plug and play like the Gen. 1 ?

I wish I could answer you, but I haven't had a radar detector in 35 years, and back then it was Step 1, hang on sun visor, and Step 2, plug into cigarette lighter.

I really need to get with the times and install a radar detector and front and rear cameras with high definition and good night time recording.

I decided against a "dash cam". They can work against you as well as for you. Besides that, their "instructions" are a chinese clusterfuck I found out.

Secondly, I live in a very nice town, it has rated as first, second and third most desirable place to live in the past few years but the po po here say 80% of people in wrecks here hit and run. If it's going on here, it's going on elsewhere.

If I have a wreck, it will likely be totaled as are most things qualifying as a wreck nowadays. These "snap together" cars aren't built like they used to be, to say the least. That's good and bad. Someone helped me out real good when my last GT was totaled and I was hoping it would be so I wouldn't have the hassle of having it "fixed".

Watch, @Junkyard Dog is going to tell us he drives the speed limits......LOL!!!

It has some options that Gen 1 didn't. You can plug 'n play, but if you live where there's no K band for example, you might want to turn off K. Or you might want to enable "silent ride" no audio alerts under a given speed. Things like that.

Gotcha! I'll still prolly need your help. I'm that bad with anything electrical. I did learn that electricity can hurt when I stuck a paper clip in an outlet when I was four years old. I can still feel it.... 🤣

So that's why you're such a bright spark. :)
Let me know roughly where you live, State, whatever, and I'll get correct settings etc from one of the guys on Discord. It seems every area has different equipment etc.
The best thing I learnt was that electricity is smoke. when you see smoke you've f'ed up.

Got it, no smoke, LOL!........

I drive a lot out of town and out of state so I prolly need all the "bands". I've driven my most common out of state route enough that I might not need a detector on that route.....but I'm not that lucky either.

The drama never ceases to amaze me!! My Valentine 1, second generation came in today....two days after ordering it and two days early from their tracking date. Maybe they just need to stop answering the phone...except for me. I sure hope it doesn't need "service". Actually, as far as user interface, I liked the older one better. I like the old style on/off knob and sound volume control better. And progress marches on.....backwards. I'll see if it works any better next highway trip I take. As long as it tells me where the po po is, I'm so excited..... Will advise if it is any better than my Gen 1 that crapped out earlier this week.

This is just such a huge dramatic event in my life I think I'll go treat myself at The Blue Plate Cafe..... 🤣

Wait till you get your first 3 or 4 mile detection. I thought the unit was faulty, it wasn't.
Blew Gen 1 into the weeds.
My first one was of the lot that had a power off issue in some. It was not affected and a software upgrade fixed the problem. Both have been trouble free for going on 6 years.
BTW. Forgot to mention, you have to use the app for software updates. They're easy too.
