I just had mine done and had all the same fears. Broken windshield or busted interior clips. They did a fine job..only found the slightest sealer fingerprint on the engine cover. Nothing else amiss. Had it done when it was in for an oil change.

So I was stressing for nothing.

Because there is a high probability that the dealer monkey's will break something else (like your windshield or trim clips) or slather that shit everywhere like a drunk caveman.
I would agree in the old days they never even checked their work. Service is much more dependable now as long as you don’t get the lowest rung doing your oil change.

I would disagree. I just went through an absolute nightmare with my wife's Hyundai Tucson. They ended up replacing interior trim that they damaged during a simple repair for something else. It took 3 months and and endless calls and emails. Ive also had some pretty bad experiences at a nearby Ford dealer on a previous car. I dont trust any of the service guys as far as I can throw them. I only let them do mobile oil changes.

As mentioned, there are a TON of threads on this with pictures and detailed explanations of what you're asking. No offense but your probably the 50th person to start a new thread and ask these questions. Do a forum search. Everything is there.
Ok Thanks

My car is a garage queen. Car only has 3K on it. Never spent a night outside. South Texas weather and not driven in rain. Carefully hand washed so no water on the top. I have a dent in my fender so I am forced to leave it for one week at a body shop. It may be left outside for a few days. Recall is NOT done. Thinking of putting some large beach towels at the bottom of the windshield under the hood. Any of you guys have some better ideas? There will be a bit of wet sanding on the front/top right fender. Thanks!
Mine is a semi-queen. I'm at approximately 5,500 miles. My GT never intentionally goes on wet roads. I am not doing the recall until I am hopeful the service techs won't do a wack job! My dealer called me 7-10 days ago, possibly more, to remind me the recall was still outstanding. I told them I am not doing it at this time. She just said thank you and said goodbye!

The only extended wet experience mine has had was a 3-hour rainstorm on a trip to Canada. No problems resulted from that exposure. I have been caught in rain showers and mine is only hand-washed. So far, so good! I have never noticed any water intrusion. It's a tough call either way, but until I feel more comfortable, I don't intend doing the recall! Glenn

Yep, too many bad experiences with dealer service depts... isn't one enough? I used to use the local dealer of another brand as the car came with 3 years' service, and I continued using because their prices were reasonable... until it happened... I always tell them NOT to wash the car, and they print that on to the repair ticket as well... then one time they did wash it... with a bucket of dirt! The car looked as if it were sanded... all hazy and terrible swirl marks. They did buff it out (though not very well)... after I brought it to their attention.

Moral of the story: even if the job was simple, or they put their best tech on the work, and it was done perfectly... the lot boy does not read the work order and just grabs cars and f***ks them up washes them! Now, if I "have" to use that dealer, I put a big DO NOT WASH sign stuck to the windshield. Luckily the Ford dealer doesn't wash the cars!

I have been "auditioning" the local Ford dealer... letting them work on the old S550 from time to time, before i decide to bring in the S650 for the water intrusion recall and another one. The dealership was bought out a few years ago and mostly new people now, and I had mixed results there in the past too. Though I was lucky enough that one (good) old timer was still there... he did the PDI on my S650 when it came in. Did I mention. they don't wash the cars?

I’m not a defender of dealers and manufacturers, unless it involved the Bailout. An un repaired recall, outside of the required time frame might mean out-of-pocket repairs later on at the very least. Depending on the recall, and I’m not saying the water intrusion recall falls in this category, a defect could be responsible for an accident, or a plaintiff in an accident could argue you were negligent for not repairing, or executing the recall. It could also result in a reduced. value of the car. I might think twice about buying a used car with an outstanding recall that is beyond the free remedy.

Two things: 1- my car seldom gets wet; 2- If I am selling the car, I would have it done. I am not saying I will never have it done, just not until I feel more comfortable that the service personnel have sufficient experience. Maybe when mine is the last one to be done! :handsinair: Glenn

Watch the first two minutes of this video as it shows how to remove the glove box. When you take out the box you will see the BCM. You can then place a towel in there while washing the car to see how much if any water comes in. Very simple test.

I just last week 5/2026 called the dealer about the BCM recall. They told me that the sealant used previously was incorrect and that the correct sealant wouldn't be available until at least fall. I have read on this forum that other people have gotten it done a second time with the correct part. Is the dealer correct? How did they get this? Or should I just call another dealer to get it done? Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the bad service you have had. I guess I'm lucky my dealer has a foreman who only works on SVT cars and GT500's and 350's. The service manager has him only work on my Dark Horse. He put on my Whipple and the complete steeda stop the hop kit plus jacking rail and DSS rear axles. He did the recall and everything and never had any problems or collateral damage. All I'm saying is not all dealers are bad good ones are out there.

Just had mine in today for an oil change and to do the inspect and leak test.
The service guy I spoke to after I got the paperwork said there was no leak found and I felt good about that.
I don't know what percentage pass without going through the process of adding sealant and let it cure, but I'm glad they didn't have to tear anything apart to fix a leak on my car.

Feb 25 build date, 4k miles on it and kept in the garage.
