I was reading this thread https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/th...formance-mustang-coming-down-the-pike.162503/ and it got me to thinking.

Most average folks, myself included, can neither reach $325K+ for a GTD nor wangle one if they could afford it. I’d say somewhere around $90-100K sticker new in current money is about the threshold of pain for everyday walkin’ around real people. And most would be happier to find one used for a lot less, say maybe in the $40-50 range. So what’s coming down the pike in the near future vs. what’s already out there? (I’m talking ICE V-8s here.)

Consider this small group of four hi-po specialty model Mustangs: Mach 1, GT350, GT500, Dark Horse. Regardless of what they call it, what can Ford come out with going forward that significantly out-performs these cars but stays in that attainable price window? Sure, they may bump up the ponies a little but the weight goes up too so net performance gain is pretty much nil. I’m sure they’ll come up with something that has some sizzle but is it really gonna be an upgrade over the group of four?

I’m if wondering buyers are realizing this and that’s why used prices on these car aren’t dropping like might be expected. It may be time to latch on to one of these “bargains” before they get any higher $ wise. Hi-po ICE V-8 Mustangs can only get so good before ongoing mandates make them undesirable.

If I was trying to get a specialty car in the 40/50 range a 13/14 Shelby GT500 is the move.

If you’re looking for new, I can’t see anything with a predator engine costing sub 100K, it will likely be closer to150K plus ADM closer to 200ish.

At that point just go McLaren.

my guess is 90-135k and it will basically be GTD without the carbon fiber body. theres a lot Ford can do to improve the performance of the top end car without throwing more power at it. then again Ford might also be looking at what Chevy is doing with the ZR1 and wanting to compete with that.

God forbid they tap in and put something with the 5.4 coyote race engines out for us 🙄

We could all be rolling 600 plus N/A if they’d let us.

What I'd like to see is the 5.4 Liter put into the S650. Optioned with a Tremec 6 speed or a DCT. Call it Boss 329...👍

My point exactly!

And to my point again, 90 might be OK but 135 won’t fly.

I love my S650 GT and I’m sure Ford is gonna come out with some more really cool stuff. But for those with regular budgets I’m just saying it might be time to take a hard look at S550 Mach 1s and Shelbys.

i mean, its not much more expensive than the 2022 GT500 and theres not much that can be done to the GT500 to improve it short of new suspension (like the GTD) making it all or mostly carbon (like the GTD) developing an all new engine (like the GT3) or completely changing the mustangs design by making the car mid engine (like the C8). All of which will skyrocket the price. TBH the real answer here is if you want more than GT/DH then just get an RTR or Roush or just DIY

edit to add: they could also just twin turbo the damn thing and call it an Ecoboost

A 5.2 Predator would too closely compete with the GTD only from the perspective of having a very similar power plant (I know the GTD is much more than that). The optics aren't good for the GTD from a price point perspective in having another Mustang in the lineup with the same engine.

I see the 5.4 w/ 6 spd as a GT350 replacement which would be a much better play for Ford. It would be a bump in performance in what they're currently offering in the DH, would allow for a 6 speed option for many who want a manual with a naturally aspirated engine, and would slot perfectly between the DH and GTD, allowing purchasing security for those who are in the position of buying a GTD.

This is just in reference to mandates. The epa and other federal agencies got neutered big time by the supreme court ruling Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo. Chevron deference. Basically the courts would rule with the agency even if credible information and data against what said agency was saying. The courts will require the agency in question to prove they are right. Chevron deference means to defer to the experts, in previous mandates that meant siding with the epa or agency in question regardless of evidence against the mandate.

Which doesn’t square with the A.S.S. system being installed on my late ‘24 GT. I’m assuming of course that given a choice nobody would actually want it to be on their car. I know it’s the one thing that would have kept me off the otherwise terrific car if it weren’t auto-disabled in track and sport mode.

Was in place before the ruling was made this year. Manufacturers can now fight this crap and win instead of we say so from the agency.

Ford has zero imagination anymore it’s about getting clout which is dumb. We also know a GT4 car is in the works and the rumor has been it’s a supercharged car aka a cheaper GTD is coming but i just want a 600hp flat plane crack V8 for 70-80k why is that so hard anymore

I think a lot of people would love that. However, during Covid most manufacturer figured out that cars are desired and that people can be charged a hell lot more for absolutely zero reasons but greedy profit.
It's worse if former bargain brands are dragged into the exotic territory and it's the worst in Europe...

Absolutely Covid made alot of companies very very lazy and it shows. I love the dark horse but let’s cut the crap it’s an updated Mach 1, so don’t try to tell me it’s a new gt350 or that it’ll give you the same experience as a GT3. Ford is in for a rude awakening if the GTD doesn’t get the times or lap data they wanted. They’ve been so quiet about it it’s kinda of concerning but that’s what happens when you make a reactionary product rather than a progressive one. I don’t wanna see another 2005-2010 years where ford went screw you give me money
