Does anyone know if cars are still shipping out if they have been released.
If there is not a picket line, they could still be shipping. Teamsters have said they will not cross lines. At the moment, there are no strike activities at Flat Rock.

I'm aware of a body assembly, body prep location that's been effectively shutdown. And the latest news that V-8 production and assembly might still come to a halt.

For those already in Production or waiting to be shipped, you might just make it out. Impacts change day-to-day.

Saw something on tentative deal with Canadian union, so may be good there.
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/20/ford-avoids-canadian-auto-strike-with-unifor-union-deal.html

Yes, tentative deal has been agreed to.

"DETROIT – Ford Motor avoided having to face labor strikes on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border Tuesday night, as the automaker and Canadian union Unifor announced a tentative deal covering 5,600 autoworkers in the country’s Ontario providence.

The Detroit automaker and union announced the agreement — which must still be ratified by members — hours before an extended 11:59 p.m. Tuesday deadline. The sides extended the talks by 24 hours following Ford’s last-minute proposal Monday night to Unifor."

Ford is now pivoting towards the UAW in the US.

A bit more detail on the strike expansion. With the exception of Wayne, MI, Ford is unaffected.

https://www.npr.org/2023/09/22/1199730114/uaw-strike-deadline-big-3-shawn-fain-ford-gm-stellantis

"Workers at 38 GM and Stellantis parts distributions centers, spread across 20 states, walked off the job at 12 p.m. ET on Friday after UAW President Shawn Fain said the two companies had failed to budge on key issues in ongoing talks for a new contract."

"However, the union will not immediately broaden its strike against Ford, citing progress with the automaker on key demands including wage tiers and job security provisions. The existing strike at part of a Ford plant in Wayne, Mich., will continue."

"Fain outlined the UAW's progress with Ford this week on key sticking points. He said Ford has, notably, agreed to reinstate a cost of living adjustment that was suspended in 2009, grant the union the right to strike over plants closures and convert all temporary employees to full-time status."

"It expanded the strikes to 38 parts distribution centers for Stellantis and GM across 20 states – but not Ford, citing progress in talks.

These centers are essentially warehouses that ship out parts to dealerships. That means that although these new strikes won't cause much disruption to vehicle manufacturing, they could relatively quickly start to interfere with vehicle repairs.

Instead of shutting down the Big 3's operations entirely by stopping engine production, for instance, the union has focused on a few assembly plants and warehouses that supply dealerships, not plants.

Even factoring in the knock-on effects, which resulted in a few thousand temporary layoffs, the vast majority of production facilities are still running.

The F-150, Silverado and Ram pickup trucks that drive the Big Three's profits, notably, are being produced without interruption."

That’s an interesting tactic. Don’t go after the major profit centers first, instead hit places that will affect consumers who already bought the product. The thought may be to put the manufacturers between upset dealers and customers on one side with them on the other, but it could just push customers to look for other products faster.

That tactic as a customer trying to get my car fixed would make me more likely to dislike the unions more than I already do and I'd be less inclined to sympathize with their cause less than I already do.

It's sad the extent to which the American "Middle Class" suffers from Stockholm Syndrome and has a crabs-in-a-barrel mentality.

But that's a whole 'nother topic for a whole 'nother day...

My mom worked for Ford as I was a kid growing up. Dealt with strikes during the holidays. Dealt with my mom crossing a picket line because she had a family to feed and having her windshield busted with a brick for doing it.

I have worked on union plants and dealt with them my entire adult life after getting out of the military including right up until today.

I have PLENTY of stories of dealing with unions in the Northeast region but we can save that for a whole 'mother topic for a whole 'mother day...
